Nicole suggested adding an Event Type field that would replace the use of RE, M, and PO flag codes in conditional comments.
    Suggested domain:
    Mark
    Recapture
    Recovery/Mortality
    Passive Detection

Would it be good to add an event type like "Pre-Sort", which would denote that the fish was only anesthetized and scanned, with no data collection?  This is a recapture event, but not one where a researcher would expect to see any data.  I'm not strongly wedded to this, just thought I would through it out there.

Nicole, would your suggested MRR event type be unique as a file (only RE's in one file) or variable within a file?  For example, we get several upstream recaptures incidental to our tagging.  We identify them as RE within the tagging file.  We record length/condition data which is valuable to the original tagger.  It is convenient to have these fish recorded while we are tagging.

My intention for this is to be set on a per-record  basis, not per file. You could have tag, recapture, or mort event types in the same file.

It is  worthwhile considering additional event types. Another possible type is a passive recapture (may need a better term) which would denote when a fish was detected automatically and not handled at all.
