Anyone know of any electronic fish length boards that send data to P3? Thanks.

P3 accepts length input via the keyboard or a digitizer tablet (x coordinate converted to mm) and does not support length boards directly. Some folks were trying to emulate the digitizer input via a custom length board input format but not sure how far they got.

That said, we're working on the next-generation P4 tagging software that can support input from various length boards if enough users request this support and there's a standard format/device type that we can code to. If you can reply back with the type of board you're thinking of using and maybe some background on the usage scenario that would be very helpful.

    Hi Melissa -

My company, Big Fin Scientific, has a digital fish-measurement board which we intend to integrate to the PTAGIS system very soon.  Pics, videos and descriptions of our fish-boards can be found here:

    http://www.bigfinscientific.com

Our Digital Fish Science boards collect all sorts of data about fish and stores it in our Android tablet application, or it can relay the information in real-time to a PC-based program.  We intend to include a data-formatter for either case which will be PTAGIS compatible.  The hardware links to scales and PIT tag readers and can be used as a remote-control device for PC-based database programs (like a hot-key keyboard).

As soon as John gives the thumbs-up, I'm planning on sending him a Big Fin board to try out, plus give him all the command-code protocol we're currently using, such that he can include drivers for our board if he chooses.

I'm hopeful that we can have our boards saving and sending PTAGIS-formatted data in the next 3-4 weeks.

I hope you check out our new fish-boards!  If you have any questions, please contact me at:

    Hi John,

We are monitoring growth of Rainbow Trout on a monthly basis. We scan and weigh 1000 fish in a day and we currently manually input the lengths into P3. I have looked at the products from Big Fin Scientific and their products look beneficial to us, but we are waiting on costs. We really only need a basic board and pen that would measure to 90-100 cm.  Thank you for your reply.

    Melissa
