I had forgotten about our conversation, and couldn't find any e-mail correspondence that documented this event. Please do me a favor and post an entry to the event log for AB1 summarizing your efforts to identify and resolve this issue. (You might want to look at my entry on 8/11/04 to help "frame" your response.) If you CC me on your posting, I'll be sure to file your e-mail so that I don't bother about this issue again at some future date. This was done to resolve a problem of sporadic misreads that were being reported from the site into PTAGIS. By inspecting the buffer of the multiplexer unit it was determined that the tags were being read correctly at the tansceiver but then the information was corrupted between the tranceiver and the minimon program. Changing the converter appears to have corrected the problem. The interrogations from the site will be closely monitored to identify/prevent future potential misreads. 11/05/2004 11:04 Jim Updated Minimon program running on site computer to Version 1.4.5. The status report from the multiplexer unit is now correctly interpreted by Minimon program. 08/16/2004 09:44 Dave I updated the Abernathy_test_tags.txt file, adding two new tag codes (provided by Jim Gasvoda) to the 13 existing codes. I then updated the database, procedurally moving all existing "ORPHAN' detections at AB1 and AB2 from the various interrogation tables into the ptagis3.test_tag_data table. 08/14/2004 12:32 Jim Minimon upgraded to version 1.4.4 at 10:52 on 8/14/04. 08/13/2004 15:48 Dave There are numerous coil ID misidentifications in the AB1 data files between July 23-26, and again on August 2. There are dozens of PIT tag mis-reads in the July 23-26 interval. Jim Gasvoda downloaded the transceiver buffer into AB104208.F on July 26. This file contains PIT tag detections, with associated coil IDs and more-or-less accurate time stamps, from June 2 through July 26. These buffered data appear to be correct, suggesting that the erroneous data were transcribed, sporadically, in the fiber optic system between the transceiver and the computer. Jim Gasvoda is now manually verifying the data file contents before submitting the data to PTAGIS. I will repair the coil ID misidentifications in the AB1 data set as time and resources allow. If requested by USFWS, and as resources allow, I will remove the tag ID mis-reads from the AB1 raw files and the PTAGIS database. 08/11/2004 14:42 Dave There are dozens of ORPHAN detections on the MUX reader at AB1 between July 21 and July 26. Most of these appear to be bit-shift misreads. These are the first documented misreads I've observed with the ISO tags. I have no idea if these are detections of actual tags, or ghost reads from the MUX transceiver. If they're from "real" tags, I don't know if they are 12mm or 22mm tags. Some of these misreads are reported in records with erroneous coil IDs; in other cases they are contemporary, but not correlated, with bad coil ID records. I don't know if there's a relationship between the bad coil IDs and tag misreads. There's a lot I don't know. I'd like to know more. I hope to talk to Jim Gasvoda about this when he's back in the office. 06/28/2004 10:31 Darren This is a test message sent from the ‘legacy’ web interface. It should be deposited in the top-level directory of the Events forum. 06/04/2004 17:14 Dave_Mar I removed Gayle Zydlewski from this site's alert email distribution list. 06/02/2004 16:54 Jim - Changed antenna A1 at site because current had dropped to 2.65A. Minimon was disconnected from 8:00AM until 1:00PM on 6/2/04 during this installation. 04/08/2004 18:03 Dave At the request of Jim Gasvoda, I created two interrogation files comprised of buffered transceiver detections recorded between 19:34 on 3/11/04 and 07:35 on 4/7/04. These detections were not reported in the MiniMon files created during that period, because the RS-232 channel was disabled at the transceiver. The communication channel has been restored, and live data are again being written to the current AB1 data files. The two data files containing the buffered data, AB104071.ALL and AB104096.ALL, were processed into the PTAGIS database by 1:20pm (PDT) on April 8, 2004. 03/20/2004 21:34 Dave I disabled site checking at AB1 while the site is off-line due to a ban on USFWS Internet connectivity. 02/18/2004 12:07 Jim AB1 is back up and running after the high water washed out the antennas at the site. Below is a description of the events at the site from the time the antennas blew out until the time they were replaced. 1/29/04 - Water level reached 1.7 meters and blew out antennas 2 and 3 at 5:55PM on 1/28/04. Antenna 1 was electrically disconnected at this time and then reconnected at 12:09PM on 2/2/04. Power to reader/ multiplexer turned off. Note that this date that the antennas blew out is a correction to previous log entry. 2/3/04 - Antennas 1 and 3 electrically connected. Antenna 1 physically in place. Antenna 3 out of water and needs to be physically reinstalled. Power to reader turned on. 2/10/04 - Power to reader shut off at 5:05PM while antennas 2 and 3 physically replaced. 2/13/04 - New multiplexer installed with increased voltage for the drive amplifier. Power to reader turned back on at approximately 4:00 PM. All antennas now physically and electrically connected and reading. Antenna 3 has low current reading and will have to be replace. 02/02/2004 14:46 Jim Water level reached 1.7 meters and blew out antennas 2 and 3 at 5:55pm on 1/28/04. Antenna 1 was electrically disconnected at this time and then reconnected at 12:09PM on 2/2/04. Antennas 2 and 3 will be physically replaced as soon as possible. 01/01/2004 11:56 Dave Initialized new event log for 2004. 2003 event log has been archived. ####End of Event Log for AB1###
