PTOC personnel will be on site next Thursday to do a walkthrough of the fiber repairs to the facility. 10/31/2003 12:51 Dave GRJ, GOJ, and B2J terminated their sample (and PIT tag detection) seasons at 7:00 am this morning (10/31/03). I modified the corresponding records in the ptagis3.obs_site_dates table. 10/31/2003 09:34 Dean_Bal Sample collections and PIT tag interrogation concluded at Bonneville JMF at 0700 pacific standard time today (31 October). The system was placed in full bypass at that time. 10/31/2003 09:03 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/10/31 06:57:59 10/29/2003 08:09 darren@r A4:InputSyncDetect,A4:ReaderReset: Alarm was generated by a random reader reset. PTOC personnel are aware of this problem. 10/28/2003 09:02 troy PTOC personnel responed to a trouble call at B2J on 10/25/03. It was determined over the phone and confirmed by Site Personnel that the PLC was in a fault condition and could not be cleared by cycling power to the PLC. The facility could not sample due to the fault. According to the PLC Values Page there was a gap in sampling from 22:58:50 until 14:59:49 when the fault was cleared. PTOC discovered that the cause of the fault was a 'divide by zero' error that was caused by the Openings Per Hour integer being zero. This integer is used to display the Openings Per Hour and in the PLC Ladder logic to calculate the time between samples and sample time. PTOC has not been able to duplicate this error nor determine how the integer obtained value of zero. As mentioned this integer is used to display the Openings Per Hour and is not changable from the PV 600 or the DTAM. PTOC changed the PV program and applied limits to the integer in question, limiting it to a value between 1 and 1200. Trouble shooting continued once the fault was cleared so there were sample taken during the trouble shooting period. At 16:30 the PV and PLC were turned back over to Site personnel with the sample set at 10% and 6 Openings Per Hour. 10/27/2003 16:22 Dean_Bal This is a reminder to all that the Bonneville JMF will go to full bypass at 0700 on Friday, 31 October. This will mark the end of the 2003 juvenile fish monitoring season. 10/25/2003 08:53 Troy The site PLC was down from 0945 on 10/24/03 to 1300 to allow PTOC personnel to standardize the I/O rack. Regularly scheduled samples did not occur during this time period. 10/24/2003 13:11 Darren A site GMC was performed on these two sites. At BO3 I had to reposition and test the timer tag on Coil 34 (400khz) because it was not firing at all. I also checked the noise and tune on all transceivers, no problems found. I had to restart Multimon because of the no EOT's that have been seen, although we are getting alarms on different ports it is only one port that has this periodic problem and that is port 08 which is related to coil OB. I will be replacing the rocketport card on the next site visit. The file BO303297.204 was closed 1 minute and 18 seconds early to perform the restart of Multimon and in that time frame there were no pittag detections or timer tags fired. 10/21/2003 16:43 Carter_S Jon Thomas called to report that his contractors were conducting a test between 16:30 and 16:45 today. Data connections did not work during the test. As of 16:45 today the connection is back on-line. Jon says there may be two tests tomorrow, and another on Thursday before the T1 upgrade is completed. --Carter 10/21/2003 10:23 Dean_Bal The T1 line was down from approximately 0800 - 0900 today so the contractor could install patch panels. There will be at least 2 similar duration outages later this week. We will be notified via E-mail prior to these planned outages and I'll also post to the event log. 10/20/2003 16:17 Scott_Li Dean Ballinger call this afternoon and indicated that the T-1 connection from the PowerHouse to the B2J facility will temporarily off line while the switch is made from the damaged fiber bundle to the new replacement. The transition SHOULD only effect B2J. Scott will PCA into B2J-PC1 and set the PTTP client to upload data via PPP while this transition is taking place. Per COE , the outage should not exceed 8 hrs but you never know. 10/19/2003 08:33 darren@r 52:InputSyncDetect,52:ReaderReset: Random reader reset. For some unknown reason, the AC recepticles (breakers 2 and 4) feeding the data collection computers tripped out at 03/08/11 16:15:01. Dean Ballinger plugged the UPS's into different AC recepticles (circuits 6 and 8) and power was restored to the data collection platform at 0903 hrs. today. So, the bottom line here is that we have lost ~ 17:00 hrs worth of data. From talking with Dean, the air to the 3-way gate was turned off during this time frame but air was restored to the 3-way at 0700 this morning due to a scheduled SByC study. The bright point in all this if there is one, is that we have the buffered data residing in the transceivers. 08/12/2003 08:32 scott_li Looking into why B2J PC's are not responding. A ping to both the PC's were unsuccessful and the connection timed out at the PSMFC router at B03. Have a call into Dean Ballinger at the facility to get some more information. The problem tracking logic will be left in the PLC program until the issue is resolved. . 07/22/2003 11:41 Dean_Bal Subject: Test conducted to ascertain mode of entry of fish into SbyC tanks at Bonnevillle JMF when no SbyC activity was scheduled. Test period: 1300 on 18 July through 0800 on 22 July. Procedure: Fish were cleared from both SbyC tanks on 18 July before test began. Inspections were performed to insure no fish were present inside E and W SbyC diversion flumes. Air pressure to the 3 way rotating gate was turned off from 1300 on 18 July through 0800 on 22 July. No SbyC activity was scheduled during this time period. This was done to prevent rotation of the tube section of the gate. Neoprene flaps and a plywood cover were installed at the rotating tube section of the 3-way gate to prevent fish from jumping from the tube into the E and W SbyC diversion flumes. Flushing water to E and W SbyC diversion flumes remained "ON" during the entire test period. Numbers of fish found in the E and W SbyC tanks were enumerated and cleared from the tanks daily during the test period. Results: Fish were found in both SbyC tanks throughout the test period. East West 18-19 July 1 2 19-20 July 3 3 20-21 July 3 3 21-22 July 6 3 Total 13 11 All fish were subyearling chinook and none of those were PIT tagged. The results strongly suggest fish are present in the Auxiliary Water Supply (AWS) and gain entry into the SbyC tanks via the flushing water to the flumes. The AWS is designed to be "fish free". The Corp is aware of this potential problem and will perform VBS inspections at PH2. Additional testing will take place between SbyC grabs 24 July - 29 July. Air pressure was enabled to the 3-way gate at 0800 on 22 July, one hour prior to the beginning of U of I SbyC activity. 07/10/2003 21:29 Don_Warf Visited site to investigate why non-tagged fish are appearing in both SbyC tanks during periods of no SbyC activity. No problems were found. Added logic to the PLC program to track the use of the 3-way-gate test switches. As an internal check to the PLC program, logic was also added to track any possible gate actuation that was not initiated by the data collection computers. The modified program was downloaded at 11:36 PST. 07/10/2003 13:14 DGE_Robo SByC_Enable (SBC) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/07/10 10:45:38 07/10/2003 13:14 DGE_Robo SByC_Enable (SBC) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/07/10 10:45:37 07/02/2003 11:27 Darren This site was visited for a GMC today (7-2-03). The rotating gate was tested for diversions both East and West due to the non-pittaged fish that were found in the "West" tank, I believe, last week. I spoke with Dean B. and we both felt that the gate may stuck in a rotated position possibly duer to the heat on Saturday. Dean and his crew are aware of the gate possibly sticking in the heat and will be watching for this occurance during the upcoming SbyC for this month. All sticks were diverted properly and the detections were as follows: A1-A4= 19 of 20 E1= 9 of 10 E2= 10 of 10 F1-F2= 9 of 10 I think that one of the "West Tank" sticks are not registered in the Watch.Tag file and this is the cause for the 9 of 10 on the "F" coils. 06/30/2003 12:44 Dave Dean Ballinger (PSMFC/SMP) reports some 100 fish in the West SbyC tank, and a few (?) in the East SbyC tank. There's no active SbyC sampling activity at B2J, so there's no reason for these fish to be there. Furthermore, Dean informs us that his crew, present 24 hours per day, have heard the SbyC 3-way gate activate subsequent to 11:00 am (PST) on June 28, the conclusion of the last SbyC sample. I've confirmed that no PIT-tagged fish have diverted to, or detected at, the East SbyC tank since the conclusion of that last SbyC sample. Dean's crew will more systematically audit and report any activity on the 3-way gate outside of "normal" SbyC periods; the next SbyC subsample (for up to 24 hours) will commence at 11:00 am (PST) on July 1. 06/26/2003 15:27 Dave The recent addition of AC-82 tags to the SbyC configuration on the B2J Multimon platform was not simultaneously instantiated to the DGE_ActionCode_AST.txt configuration file. (I bad.) Recent DGE reports (run in the 24 hours prior to 3:00 pm today) incorrectly report the diversion failure of nine AC-82 fish that were in fact successfully diverted into the B2J SbyC East Sample Tank. The DGE_ActionCode_AST.txt configuration file was corrected at ~3:00 pm today, and subsequent reports should correctly audit the actual intent and disposition of SbyC target fish at this location. 06/25/2003 15:13 troy@ree 92:InputSyncDetect,92:ReaderReset: These alarms are being cleared in order to monitor the effectiveness of maintenance performed during a site GMC on 6/24/03 06/25/2003 09:02 Darren_C A site GMC was performed yesterday. I passed sticks through the separator monitor to test the 3-way gate for diversion to the East Tank, U of I is sampling to the West Tank, The efficiencies were as follows: A1-A4= 100% E1-E2= 100% I also replaced the Backlight on the Panel view 600 touch screen DTAM. It had failed the thursday before on was on order. 06/23/2003 08:32 Dave I updated the map and database files to B2J03172.MAP and B2J03172.DB, respectively. The new DB contains ~12k fall chinook tags for OSU (OSU-FC, Action Code #82). The map file contains instructions to divert up to 45 of these tags into the left (East) SbyC tank on each of four occasions -- June 25 and 27, and July 15 and 17. Each diversion period begins at noon (PST) and continues for 24 hours. 06/20/2003 08:33 Darren_C These sites were visited yesterday for site GMC's. All transceivers were checked for tuning and noise. No Problems were found. Sticks were passed through the separator at B2J and the results are as follows: Coils A1-A4= 19 of 20 Coils E1-E2= 9 of 10 CoilsF1-F2= 10 of 10 I believe that there is one stick code that is not in the Watch.Tag file because all sticks were diverted properly. 06/16/2003 14:28 scott The high speed lan connection has been restored from the AFF the B2J. Found the polarity wrong in the 28 level PP and switch fiber pairs from Ore/blue to slt/wht in the same PP. Verified connection and reconfigured PTTP for lan use on PC1 and 2. Informed Dean B of the connection. 06/11/2003 23:31 D._Chase All sites were visited today for site GMC's. although no problems were found with transceivers or gates we did notice a very high volume of chad going through all the ladders, this may be causing some of the obscure numbers on some of the ladders. 06/11/2003 16:57 Dave Updated database and map file to B2J03162.DB and B2J03162.MAP, respectively. The map file contains eight new Diversion Units for subsampling of Lyons Ferry fall chinook for Darin Jones (DJ-0FC, AC-78), starting July 1. The database contains ~7.5k new tags for AC-78, and is also updated with ~10k additional tags for the DJONES group (AC-79). The clocks on the B2J PCs are within one second of each other and atomic time. 06/02/2003 13:29 Dave I traveled to the site and updated the database to B2J03153.DB. This version contains 8039 additional AC-79 tags. While at B2J, I spoke with Dean and Bruce regarding the spurious diversion of tags; we were unable to discern any pattern to the anomalous diversions. The latest U of I subsample had just started an hour earlier, and I was able to verify that target tags were being correctly diverted to the West SbyC tank. The clocks on the two PCs were within 19 seconds of each other, and well within five minutes of atomic time. 05/27/2003 11:00 darren@r 82:TestTagFailure: Test Tag did not fail. Another pittag was introduced to the system between the time the request to fire sent and the timer tag was receeived. 05/18/2003 08:47 darren@r A1:TestTagFailure: This is not a failure. The test tag did fire but between the request to fire the test tag and the test tag firing a pittag was introduced into the feild and then the test tag fired. 05/16/2003 13:42 Darren This message is to describe what was found at B2J with the rotational gate and why there was mis-diversions. I arrived on site Tuesday 5-13-03 in the afternoon and met with Rick Martinson and Jeff Kamp, who were already on-site. The flush water inside of the gate was checked but because of an ongoing SbyC study, U of I still were diverting fish until 10 a.m. on 5-14-03, we were unable to shut off the air to the gate so we could really only check flush water. Dave Marvin showed up and a discussion insued about the bycatch that was seen on the previous U of I diversion. Dean Ballinger said that the by catch for both tanks was about the same (4 by catch per pittag) which made it sound like the gate was actually rotating rather than fish spilling over into the wrong path (East Tank instead of West Tank). It was decided by everyone that we would meet back at the facility at 10 a.m. the next day when the air could be removed and the gate could be looked at more mechanically. Rick was going to contact Tammy Mackey, who he was going to have bring a corp. mechanic, and I would talk with Jim Simonson to see if he would have time to come over and look at the adjustment. Dave Marvin and I went into the pittag room and looked at the counts to see if U of I had received all their fish for the current SbyC study, which they had, so we went through the raw files and found 4 more pittag fish that were diverted the right way but ended up in the wrong tank. We also checked on OSU SbyC which diverted into East Tank for their study and found that they had diverted 106 pittag's without any misdiversions. I met Jim, Rick and Dean at 10:10 the next day, Tammy and the corp. mechanic were unable to attend, the air was removed from the gate and it was found that the rotating flipper was indeed out of adjustment for a rotation to the right (West Tank). Jim made the necessary adjustments to the "nimba" actuator and gate was tested for water spilling over into each channel. We will have to wait until the next U of I study which will begin on 5-19-03 at 9:00 and end 5-21-03 at 9:00. Sticks were passed through the gate when the misdiversion was discovered but the flipper adjustment would not be detected with sticks simply because they float "on" the water rather than "in" the water. I know that the gate "MOU" has been beat up and that the gates are the corp.'s responsibility but what is the response time supposed to be? would do we do if the mechanics cannot respond for a couple days, in this case the study would have been done and probably had more mis-diversions. Carter, how can we be diplomatic yet stress the importance of the gate maintenance or are we just at the mercy of the facility? 05/14/2003 17:49 Dave On 5/13, I updated the B2J database to B2J03132.DB. This version contains 9289 additional tag codes for OSU's AC-81, and 8298 additional tag codes for U of I's AC-79. I also updated the map file to B2J03133.MAP, setting the collection limit for AC-11 to 36 for the current SbyC subsample; this was necessary to override a residual limit of 24 resulting from my failure to clear the MultiMon counters at the beginning of the season. This increase resulted in the successful diversion of 11 of the next 12 AC-11 tags detected at the B2J 3-way gate. (Well, successful in the sense that the fish were diverted to one of the SbyC subsample tanks. A few of them went to the East tank rather than the expected West tank.) Unfortunately, my failure to clear the counters at the beginning of season resulted in the total exclusion of AC-11 (Rapid River Hatchery) fish from the first U of I subsample on May 5-7. This situation will be properly addressed prior to the next sample starting on May 19. 05/14/2003 11:24 Alan_Bro A GMC has been performed, all transcievers checked for tune and any other concerns since the last visit. Sean Casey and Earl Prentice helped with the flat plate, the results being that turning down the exciter power yielded a quieter signal. 05/12/2003 08:59 Darren_C On Thursday Scott and I performed a site GMC, and while we were talking with Dean he explained that there were UofI fish that were ending up in the wrong tank. Scott and tested the 3-way gate both ways to check for malfunctions. We did not see any malfunctions with sticks. We told Dean to let us know if there anymore discrepancies with fish and tanks and we could look into some raw files to see what if anything is happening. I will contact Dean today to see if there has been anymore misdiversions. 05/08/2003 13:21 D.Chase All Sites were visited for site GMC's. No problems were found. At BO2 transceiver 03 was replaced with a new transceiver that contains the NPO capacitors. The reason it was replaced was because the timer tag kept failing. We will watch to see how the NPO cap's do at this site. 05/01/2003 11:44 DChase A GMC was performed today. All transceivers were checked for tune and sticks were passed through the 3-way diversion gate. PC2 was not reporting any information from coil A1 nor could commands be sent to this transceiver. PC2 was temporarily shut down so the rocketport cards could be removed and reseated. This solved the problems. 04/30/2003 12:08 Dave Updated map and db files to B2J03120.MAP and B2J03120.DB, respectively. The database contains tags for new Action Code 81 (OSU-ST) and additional tags for AC-79 (DJONES). The map file contains new SbyC instructions for the OSU-ST tags, which will be diverted as scheduled (DU-7) to the East SbyC Tank, starting today at 12:00 PST. Existing SbyC logic will divert ATPase study fish (AC-11,12,13,79) to the West SbyC Tank, as scheduled (DU-7), starting May 5. Synced the clocks on both PCs to atomic time. Had to disable the Windows DST adjustment on B2J-PC2; the clock was, and remains, on PST. 04/17/2003 16:19 Dave I created a new B2J map file (B2J03107.MAP), addressing U of I's requested subsampling changes, and stored it to the FTP site. I will download and install it when I am on site next week. 04/12/2003 22:05 DGE_Robo DivertDuringSample (A_DDSample) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/04/08 13:06:28 04/12/2003 19:42 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/27 14:06:53 04/12/2003 19:42 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/27 09:36:19 04/12/2003 19:24 DGE_Robo DivertDuringSample (A_DDSample) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/26 10:47:54 04/12/2003 19:24 DGE_Robo SByC_Enable (SBC) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/26 10:47:54 04/12/2003 19:24 DGE_Robo DivertDuringSample (A_DDSample) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/26 10:47:53 04/12/2003 19:24 DGE_Robo SByC_Enable (SBC) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/26 10:47:53 04/12/2003 18:53 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/21 17:44:23 04/12/2003 18:53 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/21 08:03:31 04/12/2003 18:18 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/21 17:44:23 04/12/2003 18:18 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/21 08:03:31 04/12/2003 18:12 DGE_Robo DivertDuringSample (A_DDSample) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2003/03/18 14:11:25 04/10/2003 11:16 Don_Warf From: "Rick Martinson" To: "'Don Warf'" Don, I'm forwarding Dean's problem report to you to keep you updated. He is working swing shift tonight so he isn't in today. The CoE has plans to begin repairs at 11 am today. We will let you know how things go this afternoon. Rick From: Dean Ballinger [mailto:Deanb@gorge.net] Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2003 9:12 PM To: Tammy M Mackey; Darland, Timothy Cc: Rick Martinson Subject: Small Dewatering Screen Brush Mechanism at DSM-1 The small dewatering screen sweep malfunctioned when the brush arm seized up against wedgewire at 1608 this evening, 9 April. All attempts to move the arm failed. The brush arm appears intact and debris is not causing the apparatus to jam (viewing from the topside vantage point). A control room operator examined the control box and concluded that an amperage overload was occurring causing an instantaneous "tripping out" when engaging the sweep. The SDS could not be deployed as the brush arm in its current state is a fish passage impediment. A TR was turned in and I understand repairs will commence around 0800 tomorrow morning (10 April). Please do what you can to expedite repairs. Thanks. 04/08/2003 16:15 DGE_Robo DivertDuringSample (A_DDSample) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/04/08 13:06:28 04/08/2003 14:40 troy These are the DTAM settings recorded today at B2J Right Delay Op 2 Ritht Time Open 80 Left Delay Op 1 Left Time Open 80 Gate sounds and works well 04/08/2003 07:25 alan@psm A4:InputSyncDetect,A4:ReaderReset: Alarm caused by ramdom reader reset. This is an ongoing problem. PTOC personel will investigate. 04/03/2003 15:05 Dave I updated the map file to B2J03093.MAP at 1:30 pm, deactivating the diversion of Lyle's AC-31 tags at the 3-way gate. The SbyC program for Lyle's fish has been canceled. We will continue to monitor, but not divert, any AC-31 tags detected at B2J. Any fish currently residing in the East SbyC tank as a result of previous diversions should be returned to the river. 03/27/2003 16:07 Dave I visited B2J on 3/25/03 and updated the Multimon computer platforms as follows: 1) I installed a new map file, B2J03085.MAP, containing diversion instructions for Lyle Gilbreath's RAPH tags (AC:31) and Darin Jones' CSS (AC:11-13) and wild Snake chinook (AC:79) tags. 2) I installed a new database file, B2J03082.DB, containing the tag codes for the actions defined above. 3) I mirrored all configuration files from PC1 and PC2 to the PTAGIS FTP server. 4) With Multimon inactive, I synced the clocks on PC1 and PC2 to "real time". 5) I rebooted PC1 and PC2, changing the "Shut Down Windows" option from "Shut Down" to "Restart" as necessary. Whoever left the floppy disk in the "A" drive on PC1 was very, very bad! 03/27/2003 15:05 DGE_Robo SampleGateBypass (SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2003/03/27 14:06:53 03/27/2003 14:52 Dean_Bal B2J was out of operational service from 0700 to 1400 on 27 March.
