    SMP personnel report that 24-hr flat plate operation was terminated at 
    midnight, September 19. Subsequent to this date the flat plate was 
    operated concurrent with SMP sampling, i.e., 1600h-2400h.

    Called SMP at this site and had them push the connect button in
    the mailer window. The modem connected on the first try and sent the files
    but was not heard from for several day's. I checked the mailer.ini file to
    be sure that the parms where set ok and they where. Not sure why the
    automated process seems to be not dialing out at the specified interval if
    this is the case.

    I visited Bonneville today. It seems that the new firewall that was installe

    I couldn't ping, telnet or ftp using the dial-up network
    configuration there, changed the DNS address and those things worked,
    but the mailer didn't.

    I was asked to leave the project because of heightened security
    due to the Afganistan and Sudan missell retaliations yesterday, so
    couldn't finish troubleshooting.

    When I got back, Todd had relaxed certain security policies
    on the firewall, and the mail from BVA made it, but rather than
    being encapsulated as SMTP packets, the connection made a bunch of
    telnet type packets to encapsulate the mail. This may have incorrectly
    encoded packets were rejected by the firewall.

    Haven't see data from BVX since Monday 6/28. Carol said that Bruce was there
    to fix one of the coils that had been down since the previous Friday and
    Bruce said that the mailer was hanging and needed to be fixed. Carol will
    reboot the machine. Will visit site if no data shows up by tomorrow.

    Lost data communication with bvx on Monday. Called Dean B. Tues. and had him
    check mailer. He said mailer was not running and he'd restart. Still no
    data by the Wed. morning. Visited site, mailer was running. Sent data.
    Talked with Peterson at site who said that graveyard shift sometimes turns
    off mailer and don't notice. Rebooted bvx for good measure. Multimon, Report
    and Mailer are started upon machine reboot. bvx is running ver 1.2 of
    mailer.

    Rick Martinson reports that 24 hour monitoring of the flat plate
    unit began at 08:00 on April 1, 1998.

    Earl Prentice reports that DSM1 flat plate detector has been in operation
    8 hrs per day during swing shift since Friday, 3/20/98. NMFS smolt monitors
    will send interrogation files as e-mail when they can. PSMFC will install
    auto-upload capability later this week or early next week.
