1994 Event Log GRJ -- Lower Granite Juvenile ==================================================== 11/01/94 Site watered down for the season. -Warf- 09/02/94 Called Pete. Backup computer still operating. I will check on 9/6/94, if still functioning we will check computer at end of season. Don Warf and I beleive that three copies of the interrogation files will be sufficient backup for the rest of the season. -K. Ross- 09/01/94 Called Pete Verhei to check on backup computer. It was locked up again. I had him Reboot and check the floppy backup. 376320 bytes free. Files GRJ94221, 236, 242 all show 0 bytes. No other files in between. Checked Hard drive, these same files show around 1600 bytes (normal for low passage of PIT Tags). Had Pete run SCANDISK on the floppy drive and backup diskette. No problems encountered. Removed the Floppy backup command from the startup file (c:\monitor\do-mon.bat Removed /BB:\) Returned computer to monitor status. -K. Ross- 08/19/94 Site personnel report the sample rate went to 100% at 7:00am this morning. -Warf- 08/12/94 08:00 Jack Pierce from US West called re: Granite phone lines. He says he boosted power to "where it should be" and that it looked "great from the US West entrance at the dam." He suggests that if problems persist, to contact the Corp. 08/11/94 Visited for maint. Replaced a time delay relay for the B side slide gate. -Warf- 08/10/94 14:45 Chris from COT called to follow-up on phone line problem. She reports that Jack from U.S. West will attempt to increase power and change a card (who know what card?). Jack will call later. Chris will call tomorrow. -Stein- 08/10/94 Site personnel report sample is now at 25%. -Warf- 08/09/94 09:15 No GRJ data. Polling failed 10 times yesterday and 10 times today. Manual connection also gets NO CARRIER. Calling site with handset results in modem answering, so we assume the computer is working. Called Greg Rood at Central Office Telephone. Greg said to try the US west carrier and the ATT carrier. I did and both failed. Greg will turn in a trouble ticket to US west and call back. Note: A rainstorm hit the Palouse over the last weekend. -Stein- 09:56 Greg reported problem to Linda at US West (Seattle). She says they won't report status until tomorrow. -Stein- 08/08/94 Site personnel report going to 100% sample on 8/6/94. -Warf- 8/01/94 Visited for maint. Replaced bell glass on the slide gate control panel. No downtime was needed. Replaced one printer in the Pit Tag room. -Warf- 7/29/94 13:00 Bell glass on slide-gate control panel is cracked. System still operating. If the both gates goes down, all pit tagged fish will be routed to sub-sample. Mike Halter says if one canister moisture collecter goes out, one flume would be closed and output from separator would be to the other flume and PIT Tag diversion would operate normally. As of this time, the system is operational. This note is WARNING of potential problem. Warf will visit site on Monday and bring replacement cartridge. --Stein-- 7/28/94 Swapped out old printers with new (MCJ) printers. Ran a stick test all coils that were testable read 80-100%. Retuned 1A west raceway coil to 399.5 KHz -OHRN- 07/21/94 Had to order a water trap for the site. Could not find one of the same brand locally. Will deliver when it arrives. Site personnel report that they had shut down the B side gate and continued to use the A side while replacing the water trap. The B side was down from 7:00am 7/19/94 untill 3:00pm 7/20/94. -Warf- 07/20/94 Site personnel reported a broken water trap on the air line to the slide gates. Both gates were down at 7:00am 7/19/94 and were being separated by hand. C.O.E. staff is replacing the water trap with one they had on hand. I will deliver a spare to the site tomorrow. -Warf- 06/29/94 Visited for maint. Replaced exciter for coils 14 and 16 on east raceway tunnel. Everything else checks ok. Tim Wik reports that the east raceways are down for the rest of the season. Ran sticks on the slide gate tunnels and got between 80 and 90%. -Warf- 06-24-94 08:00 Ken McIntyre reports that the backup computer locked up two days ago and had to re-boot. It was at O/S, not in monitor.exe. -Stein- 06-09-94 Adjusted the air pressure for the sample slide gate. -Warf- 06-01-94 Visited for maint. Ran sticks on the slide gates and got 90% on both. Everything checks ok. -Warf- 05-31-94 Ken McIntyre called. PIT Tag air compressor is down. Slide gates have been switched to COE backup. The compressor will be installed or replaced. Prentice is going to be at the site tomorrow and a decison will be made upon a course of action. 05-18-94 16:20 Greg called. Said GRJ phone should work. Carter polled the site and successfully transfered the data. 05-18-94 11:20 Carter called GRJ and talked to Mike. Sample rates at GRJ (COE dates): 5/1-5/4 1% 5/5 2% 5/6-5/9 >1% <2% 5/10-5/14 1% 5/15-5/17 2% 5/18 4% 5/19 5% 05-18-94 11:10 Greg Rood called. Trouble ticket turned in with Bob at US West. US West checked the wrong number. Mary took the next trouble ticket. Sees lots of high voltage on the line (perhaps due to wet weather). The line up to the d-mark is US West and after the d-mark is COE responsibility. Carter will check with COE biologist and with Loren (COE telecom) and then check back with Greg. 05-17-94 Ran sticks on both slide gates. Got 90% on B and 80% on A using a 10 stick test. Replaced the printer for A/Gate. -Warf- 05-17-94 11:50 Warf at GRJ. Disconnect data line from the main computer. Then connected that phone line to a telephone. Then tried to dial PSMFC in Gladstone. Got LOTS OF STATIC on the line and could barely hear a message that said "You have reached computer services private network. If you would like to make a long distance call, contact your operator." Greg at cenral office telephone has a U.S. west technician rep. (U.S. West 470-4121) looking into the problem in the Colfax area. Greg will keep us posted... 05-16-94 Dave Marvin reports that the pit tag head box was flushed at 12:23 (grj94131). This resulted in about 400 pit tagged fish exiting the box within a few seconds. The result was plenty of asrisks in the controller records indicating buffer overflow. Carter has called Central Office Telephone (Chris) and reported the phone line problem to Lower Granite Juvenile. The polling program tried ten times to connect last night and failed all ten times. Carter tried to connect manually during the day and failed each time. Chris will will contact U.S. West and try to get them to check lines and switches on the remote side. -Stein- 05-13-94 Visited for maint. Everything checks ok. -Warf- 05-10-94 Visited for maint. Replaced printer ribbons. -Warf- 04-25-94 Controller Mystery Update: Byron Flateland reports that a controller firmware bug creates incomplete observation records when high volumes of pit tags are detected in a short amount of time. BF will send a description of the problem and a plan for a firmware upgrade. Additionally, GRJ94111.A contained 325 observation records that begin with an asterisk in column 1 between 18:50 and 18:52 on 04-21-94. 04-22-94 Controller Mystery: Tag ID 1F6B697815 shows thirty different records with an 18:28:02 time-stamp in the GRJ94111.A file. Sample faxed to Byron Flateland at Destron. 04-12-94 Ajusted large slide gate for faster operation. -Warf- 04-05-94 System powered up for the season Slide gates set up.
