Troy has retrieved A PIT-Tag from the B-side seperator monitor around noon today.. 12/01/2003 09:29 Dave The tag 3D9.1BF18340EE, recently and regularly observed at GRJ B1, is somehow triggered by the "test tag" event. This tag, inserted into a wild yearling chinook released from the Sawtooth trap on May 16, 2003, has not been detected subsequently until November 17, when it was detected at GRJ (long after the project was dewatered), and has been observed on a regular basis ever since. This is always associated with a pair of "$B1 MESSAGE: Single-shot test with Test Tag." and "$B1 MESSAGE: Test Tag Found." records, but the expected test tag, 3D9.0EEEEEE690, is not reported. 12/01/2003 08:50 Darren_C I have searched the raw files for the tag code that keeps appearing as a detection on the "B" separator. Wires were pulled from the Pit Tag room to the PLC enclosure and the RS-232 line drivers were connected to UPS power. The .HW1 and .HW2 files were modified. The files on the ftp server were renamed GRJ-GEN03308.HW1 and .HW2. The new files were then loaded on the server. The PIT tag room circuit breaker panel main was turned off to test the PLC messaging. AC POWER OFF was written to the raw file. When power was restored AC POWER ON was written to the raw file. When the testing was done all transceivers were checked to ensure they came back up ok. I tried sending the files in manually and had no problems. Because I had to re-boot the machine today at 10:00 PTTP is not in sync with Multimon but should fix itself at midnight. We will monitor this tomorrow for loading. 10/27/2003 11:16 Darren_C During the Re-Starting of Multimon for the PDT to PST time change I was unable to PCA into GRJ-PC1. I had Doug Ross go into the pittag room and walked him through stopping and starting multimon, he was also unable to tell me if PCAnywhere was running because of the "stealth" mode. I was still unable to get into PC1 so I had him reboot PC1, it was out of data collection for about 8 minutes with no pittag detection, I had Doug watching the screen for any activities. investigate why B Slide Gate was not working the following was found:The piston shaft had un-screwed from the gate. Site personnel fixed the gate by screwing the pison shaft back into the gate. Extensive testing was done to verify that the gate was working correctly. Some programming changes were made to address the issue of sticks/fish not diverting during sample. All transceivers were tuned. Coil 23 was a little noisier than last week (10-12%). A solution to the condensation problem is being developed. The site has been in 100% sample mode since 12:00 noon 9-1-2003. When I attempted to stick test the Separators I noticed that even though "Divert During Sample" was enabled, sticks through the "A Separator Gate" ended up in the sample tank. This is because the sample gate was not opening. Also the "B Separator Gate" was stuck closed, diverting the sticks (and fish) not to the sample tank, but to the raceway. PTOC personel will be onsite tomorrow to remedy these problems. I apprised COE Bio Kent Blevins of the situation. He had me work with Separator Operator Virgil Barnes. Two sticks slipped out of the Diversion Head Box and found their way to the middle Pit Tag Separation Holding Tank. All Sticks were diverted properly. One stick appears to not be in the watch.tag file. Coils 21, 22, and 23 tuned up well (6-9% sig) and show no signs of their former noisy behavior. An examination of those monitors did show a fair amount of moisture, probably from water evaporating and condensing inside the closed monitor. There is a hose fitting in the weephole that prevents all the water from draining out the bottom. The direct source of the water is not visible. These two particular trancievers are experiencing higher than normal noise levels due to condensation in and around the coils. 08/18/2003 13:50 Troy A site GMC was performed today. All transceivers were check for tune. No problems were found except on coils 22 and 23. Higher than normal signal levels were found there and could not be tuned out. Apon further investigation it was found that there was condensation in and around both coils. Attempts were made to "mop up" the condensation and PTOC personel will monitor for future problems. The facility switched to primary bypass (and the separator was dewatered) at 7:00 am (PDT) in preparation for a facility outage and repairs to the primary gate value. The gatewell orifices were closed between ~9:30 am and ~6:00 pm during which time the facility was at 100% spill. The full JBS (including the secondary separation/collection/sample system) was rewatered at ~6:00 pm, with the orifices opened in staged succession by this time. The second one, at 9:13:03, was caused when PC2 and PC1 were both temporarily competing for gate control. The tag that was supposed to be diverted was not, and was instead routed to the raceways. The first problem was an error in the PLC program that added the slide gate open time (1.5 seconds) to each sample. This was corrected and verified by the SMP. The second problem was created when site personnel increased the site air pressure to 130 psi. This increased the speed of the large sample gate to the point where the tail end of the sample was not being transferred to the sample tank. A timer was added to the PLC program that delays the opening of the large sample gate after each sample to insure that all of the sample makes it to the sample tank. This was also verified by the SMP. The alarm on 4/22/03 for Coils D1 and D2 were caused by a random reader reset, this is an ongoing occurrance for the Juvenile readers. 04/21/2003 14:38 Darren As I was inspecting the slide gate on the "B" separator I noticed that the gate was not operating at all, which could explain the lowered efficiencies for this gate. I worked with site personnel to free up the gate. I worked the gate and then proceeded to test it with sticks. I showed the site personnel that the gate did not seem to moving easily and it made need to be check out. Upgraded through an intermediate map file, GRJ03106.MAP, which excised all but one of the vestigial Diversion Unit definitions for the AC-31 collections. Fortunately, the new SbyC protocol for these tags shunts 100% of them to the raceways, and none had been detected (or diverted) at the "C" gate. GRJ03106.MAP explicitly terminated the AC-31 sub-collection at 7:00 am (PST). In invoked that map at ~8:15 am PST, explicitly terminating that DU activity. Third year in a row we missed the first SbyC period for U of I! Actually, we just missed the first 28 hours of the 48- hour interval that started at 11:00 (PST) yesterday, 4/13. The diversion protocol in Multimon was active, but the SbyC Enable switch was set 'OFF'. (In previous years, we just forgot to turn the air on to the 2-way gate). I discussed the problem with Joe Evevold, the UI researcher, at 3:00 pm. At 3:45 pm Ken McIntyre, after verifying that there was water in the SbyC tank, flipped the "Enable SbyC" switch "ON", and successfully tested the 2-way and 3-way gates. At 4:10 pm (15:10:30 PST), I enabled a new map file, GRJ03104.MAP, that increased the counter thresholds for the current DU to account for the 25 fish unsuccessfully "diverted." At 15:15:16 PST, I watched as a Rapid River target fish (AC-11) was successfully diverted at the 2-way gate "C" coils and then detected (and hopefully diverted) at the "D" coils on the 3-way gate. Due to the cancellation of Lyle's SbyC study, I have excised the previously-defined Diversion Unit (DU) configurations specific to the subsampling of AC-31 tags (Lyle's RAPH fish). I also modified the 3-way gate action to monitor, rather than divert, Lyle's AC-31 tags. Thus, these fish will now be treated as by-catch if and when they are incidentally diverted at the SbyC 2-way gate along with U of I's targeted subsample fish. 03/31/2003 17:40 Dave Updated PTTP on GRJ-PC1 to send files every three hours. It was set to send every eight hours. I did not change the 120-second delay. 03/31/2003 17:32 Dave Updated map and db files to GRJ03090.MAP and GRJ03090.DB, respectively. Map file contains new definition for AC-47 (DMITRI); fish with this AC will be ignored (monitored, not diverted) at the separator gates, and monitored at all other locations. Database file contains 11,475 new tags for AC-47, and an additional 4849 tags for for existing AC-16 (CSS-WF). Loading the database file generated an "Invalid Tag_ID" error on PC1, but no such error (with the identical file) on PC2. An inspection of the database contents within the Multimon environment revealed no differences in the numbers of tags loaded to PC1 and PC2. The clocks on the two PCs are within five seconds of each other and 22 seconds of "real" time. 03/26/2003 08:57 Dave I visited GRJ on 3/24/03 and performed the following pre-season computer platform configuration operations at both sites: 1) I moved all historic data files from the c:\multimon\archive directory into zipped archives in "c:\multimon\2001 data" and "c:\multimon\2002 data" on both PC1 and PC2. 2) I deleted all daily and seasonal counter files in the c:\multimon\counters directory on both PC1 and PC2. 3) I modified the existing hardware configuration files, changing the number of files created per day from four to eight, and saving new files as "gen" rather than overwriting the existing "gn8" files. 4) I downloaded the new "gen" versions of the site maps and default databases from the PTAGIS FTP server to PC1 and PC2. I uploaded the "gen" versions of the hardware files from PC1 and PC2 to the PTAGIS FTP server. I updated the current ignor.tag file from the site to the PTAGIS FTP server. I deleted all "gn8" files on PC1 and PC2. All generic Multimon configuration files are now mirrored between each site's PC1 and PC2 platforms and the respective site directory on the PTAGIS FTP server. 5) I downloaded and installed the grj03082.db database and grj03084.map map file to PC1 and PC2. 6) With Multimon inactive, I synced the clocks on PC1 and PC2 to "real time". 7) I rebooted PC1 and PC2, changing the "Shut Down Windows" option from "Shut Down" to "Re-Start" as necessary. At 17:30 on 3/24/03, the Multimon Computer platforms at GRJ was configured for active diversion and monitoring for the 2003 field season. The site began secondary collection (fish across the separator) at 0700h on 3/25/03. 03/25/2003 08:56 Dave Facility switched into secondary bypass at 0700h (PST) on 3/25/03; site is "active" for PIT tag detection. Installed generic (GRJ-GEN) configuration files on 3/24/03. Hardware files modified to create eight files/day. Installed first set of production map and database files (GRJ03083.MAP and GRJ03082.DB) on 3/24/03. Took Multimon offline momentarily at 0800h 3/25/03 to install modified map file GRJ03084.MAP; the modification was necessary to maintain Multimon counter consistency in the event the site configuration must be rebuilt from the generic settings. Two tags (3D9.1BF10F633B & 3D9.1BF0F39D57), detected at 0708h on 3/25/03 during water-up appear to be "residual" tags left in the plumbing since last season. 03/21/2003 13:41 Dave I enabled site
