The facility is currently operating in emergency bypass until all fish screens are removed. 10/21/99 14:58 scott_li The coil wrapping phase has been completed as of 10:30 am 10/21/99. A total of 32 coils were wrapped and sealed. 8 of the 40 coils were installed previously with the ISO configuration. Inductance of the coils before tuning is ~ 360uh, approx. 100 uh higher than the computed value for the flume dementions. This was done for flexability during the coils tuning phase. 10/11/99 16:51 Carter_S Turned off data checking for McNary in etc/sites today. 10/11/99 12:00 davem The PIT tag interrogation equipment was shut down at approximately 11:00 AM PDT and has been taken out of service. This is part of the scheduled conversion from the 400 kHz PIT tag to the new 134.2 kHz ISO compatible tag. Facility interrogations will resume (at the new frequency) when the collection site waters up in Spring of 2000. 10/06/99 12:19 Don_Warf Laplinked into MCJ at 8:30 am to find the error message: Connection reset by remote host. Clicking OK shut down the Mailer Program. Restarted Mailer and pushed button to manually send files. 09/28/99 08:48 scott_li Edited the mailer.ini file and added the line Logfile=mcjerr.log. This will write an entry to a text file with status information when mailer attempts to make an I/P connection. Checked system resources on the windows computer . Available memory at 32,276. System Resources 86 percent free as of 0825, 99271. 09/14/99 15:41 sandyd PSMFC called to say there was an OE error caused by Windows. Assume happened on 6/23 around 15:00 computer time. Corrected at 07:22 on 6/24 computer time when someone press any key (this caused a lot of information to be downloaded from memory causing COM1 overflows on the DOS computer). Eventually, the computer was rebooted and everything returned to normal. 09/13/99 14:58 Don_Warf Encountered another fatal exception error that read: an fatal exception error OD has occurred at 2207: 000013E9. I had a smolt monitoring person reboot to clear the problem. 09/10/99 11:00 davem SMP personnel reported that power outages on September 7 and 9 interrupted sampling and PITtag detection for a total of 45 minutes. 09/09/99 11:12 scott_li The Windows computer (pc1) had a fatal exception error generated by windows, 0d at 220f:000013e9, it may be possable to continue press any key. Multimon was collecting data. SMP rebooted computer. Retrieved all data files from 99250.005 to 99252.002 and mailed them to Pitdata. 09/08/99 15:33 davem On September 7-8, I manually repaired a number of holes in the data files at McNary. Some of these, such as those where I added a CLOSE tag, appear to have been caused by power outages. The file retrieved from PC1 had been missed my our regular file polling process. The data files I backfilled from PC2 data versions were required because the original files each had a significant skip that generally spanned 12 or more hours and two or more of the PC2 data files. There were &COM1 errors in the 174-175 files and &SLC500 errors in the 189-190 series; I don't know if these were the cause or result of the interrogation problems. DPM I added a CLOSE tag to existing PC1 versions of the following files that terminated abnormally: MCJ99242.001 MCJ99245.003 MCJ99175.003 MCJ99119.002 MCJ99250.002 MCJ99250.003 I retrieved (from PC1) and loaded: MCJ99243.004 I retrieved (from PC2) and loaded: MCJ99174.004 I created from PC2 files: MCJ99119.092 by clipping data prior to 09:15:01 from MCJ99119.002. Th-th-th=-that's all, folks! 08/09/99 15:34 scottl Changed oscilators in exciters on river 2 monitor , coils 40,42,44,46 from 4.000.00 Mhz to 4.026.00 Mhz. Retuned coils to 402.6 Khz. This was done as a field test to reduce noise levels on the ISO xceivers caused by the 400 Khz system. This change reduced noise levels on ISO xcvr's c3 and c4 by ~ 95 percent. FDXB level ( after freq. shift ) for C3 ~ 2 to 5 percent. FDXB level for c4 ~3 to 7 percent. Will monitor 400Khz river1 monitor for any drop in detection efficiency. COIL EFFICIENCY RESULTS for MCNARY DAM JUVENILE, - RIVER-1 FROM: 8-aug-1999 00:00 TO: 9-aug-1999 13:30 ----------------------------------------------------- TOTAL MISSED ESTIMATED EFFICIENCY ----- ------ -------------------- Individuals: 0 Coil 40 0 0 Coil 42 0 0 Coil 44 0 0 Coil 46 0 0 No fish have been seen during the date of the 400Khz Freq shift. Might not get any comparative efficiencies from 400 to 402.6Khz due to no activity on this monitor. 08/04/99 12:11 darren Reinstalled Transceiver C4 and inserted new test tag.Noise was still to excessive.Removed power from down stream 400Khz coil and noise went to below 5 and tag was read and transceiver could communicate.Scott suggested that I leave the transceiver in standby mode until we can install the 402Khz oscill into the exciters. 08/02/99 15:03 scottl Due to loss of T-communications in gladstone, PTOC Maint. personell called site and asked SMP to verify data collection platform was operational. Inserted marker in file for clarification. 07/28/99 13:28 darren I went down to check on c4 transciever because it was reporting overuns. Also I had to check the PLC controller because it had been reported as being locked up(for both a and b gates). The plc was not locked up but the cable between the plc and the lcd display had fallen off I reattached and secured. I also plugged c3's fiber cables so we could talk to it.C4 however did not fair so well.I could not get the noise level below 40 percent, this was locki up the processor only when the exciter was on.I returned with C4 to check it out. After talking with Scott we believe that the timer tag may be on all the time. Will verify C4 is operational and return to check timer tag. 07/23/99 00:00 davem SMP personnel report that the last fish transportation barge of the season left McNary on 7/22/99. All transported fish collected after 0700h (PDT) on 7/22/99 will be trucked. 07/17/99 00:00 davem SMP personnel reported the following two events. 1)There were no PIT tag detections during primary bypass on July 16 from 2:55am to 3:15am during primary bypass. 2)The "A" side PITtag diversion system was down from 3:00pm - 4:15pm on July 16 to repair an air line. 07/15/99 00:00 davem SMP personnel report that the facility was in primary bypass on July 13 between 7:15am and 2:00pm (PDT). Primary bypass routes collected fish around the transportation/sampling facility. Any PIT-tagged fish that exited the collection channel during this period were NOT interrogated. 07/14/99 08:35 darren -DarrenC- went out to inspect coils #14,16 which were not presently reading. I found that the exciter was under powered but still working.I also found th the connector to the controller was not seated all the way. I replaced the exciter and seated the connector. I ran sticks(22) and the results were coil 10-22,coil 12-22,coil 14-21,and coil 16-16.I then checked the loop tuner connections and they appeared to be alright.I ran sticks again but got the same results.I then replaced the exciter with another one and ran sticks and got about the same results. It could need tuning.I will monitor coils to see how they perform. 07/09/99 14:03 scottl Iso xciever C4 was reinstalled at 1000 hrs today. The SLC500 comms errors has been corrected. upon arrival PC1 had a general protection fault generated by laplink program. Multimon was still collecting data but pc2 had control over the gate. Rebooted pc1 , pc2 still would not relinguish control of the slide gate to pc1. re-booted pc2 and gate control was taken over by pc1. The exact same problem was encountered at LMJ early this year. The fix was to return the com port settings back to the factory default settings. PC1 at MCJ does not have a modem installed at this time so we will be returning the com port settings back to factory defaults at a later time. This was not done due to a study being conducted a the facility at this time. Note: The Laplink logfile indicated that Sandy D was the last person to remotely login to PC1 on 7/8/99. Copied files mcj99189.004, 181.003, 181.004, 182.001, 189.004 from pc2 to pc1 data dir for processing.Reworked coil connection due to corrosion on coil 18 B-raceway to improve reading efficiency. 07/07/99 12:00 davem SMP personnel report: "On July 6 the collection channel was unwatered to repair the side dewatering cleaner brush. The facility was down from 1:44pm to 5:50pm" (PDT). 06/30/99 07:44 dlwarf Replaced exciter for coils 18 and 1A due to low efficiency. Stick tested with 20 sticks at 1000n all coils. Replaced exciter for coils 14 and 16 due to no current on 16. Ajusted close time on the B-side slide gate from 14 to 18. 06/28/99 16:04 dlwarf Brad Eby reported that the B-side slide gate was shut down due to slamming from 12:05 to 15:03. Brad adjusted the relief valve per my instuctions. 06/25/99 16:12 dlwarf Corp employees reported that the T1 line was down and was back on line around 10:00 pm. 06/21/99 16:08 darren Replaced B side solenoid valve and relief valves. Ran sticks through to ensure gate operation.A side tested good but was unable to run sticks because of clogged exit flume. 06/21/99 08:51 scottl Map file MCJ99166.map was loaded on pc1 at 0741 pst 6/21/99. 06/02/99 15:59 darren Ran stick test on a-subsample. Repaired connections on exciter and loop tuner (30,32). Ran stick test results on coil 32 detected (18 of 20). 05/25/99 12:44 scottl Replaced Exciter on A-Subsample coils 30, 32 due to low efficiency. 05/25/99 12:44 scottl Disconnected the fiber comms for ISO coil c3 to prevent overrun error clutter in the data file. This will allow the reader to remain on for further evaluation. 05/25/99 11:44 scottl The excessive noise within ISO coil c3 is obviously caused by 400 Khz interference. Noise level in the transceiver is at 28 percent. Not sure at what signal level percentage overun errors are displayed. This is the first time this year with the 400 system on that we have noticed these overruns. High noise levels are to be expected with the 400 system in close proximity. 05/24/99 13:09 scottl Noticed the ISO tranceiver C3 MCJ was in an overrun condition. FDXB level at about 28 0r so. Not sure why this is , all other tranceivers within this monitor appear to be running normally... I noticed this when I laplinked in to verify the status of the computer at Approx. 12:30 pm today. I sent the reader a ra0 command to put it in standby mode until I can get there and diagnose the problem.. 05/24/99 13:01 scottl The previous entry is information for LMJ only 05/19/99 13:13 scottl Turned on Iso tranceivers c1-3 and b1-4 at 1300hr. Construction of the new platform has been completed. Informed Brad Eby that the electrical breaker for the B iso coils was being re-energized. There was no lock out tag on the breaker. 05/13/99 08:43 dlwarf Laplinked in to find the mailer with a run time error displayed. I found the B side gate working correctly. The A side gate air pressure had been turned down to 80 psi. After returning the pressure to the correct setting of 100 psi the gate operated correctly. A plug in the river 2 line had been cleared at 1:50 pm..The site bio said he would shut down the gates and would not use them unless another plug occurs. If at that time using the gate would bypass the plug he would turn it back on giving us an exit monitor. 05/10/99 15:28 dlwarf Loaded Multimon 6.04 on both PCs. 05/10/99 10:00 davem McNary SMP personnel report that fish exiting the "B" side of the separator have been rerouted from the River 1 exit through the barge loading boom since 11:45PM PDT on Sunday, May 9. This includes any "B" side PIT-tagged fish, as the PIT tag diversion gate was deactivated on May 6. Fish exiting the "B" side of the McNary separator currently pass through a total of four PIT tag antenna coils, compared to eight coil passage for fish exiting the "A" side of the separator. 05/08/99 08:53 scottl Used telnet session to verify file content of current files being built. Also verfied that the preceding files closed cleanly with the correct footer information. 05/07/99 19:51 dlwarf Replaced exciter for coils 44 and 46 on River 2 due to low efficiency on coil 46. 05/06/99 18:00 davem Due to COE concerns regarding the mechanical operation of the diversion gates, and possible injury to tagged and non-tagged fish due to those operations, the PIT tag slide gates were deactivated at MCJ at 5:15PM PDT on May 6. This change in operations should NOT affect PIT tag interro- gation efficiency as all fish, included those with PIT tags, are routed through alternate plumbing containing 4-coil interrogation tunnels. 05/06/99 18:00 scottl At 4:45 this afternoon, Brad Eby expressed his concern with the high rate of PIT tag passage at McNary, and the stress the gates were taking. At a rate of ~1000 tags/hour, the gates were banging hard when multiple tagged fish activated the gate before the gate cycle had completed. Given that all fish are ultimately routed through at least eight coils and sent back to the river, Brad was eager to save the equipment, deactivate the gates, and send tagged fish down the same route as non-tagged fish, through river exits 1 and 2. He proposed doing so during the peak passage hours, roughly from 6:00pm-8:00am. It was decided that the gates would remain off entirely until holding for transportation begins. The diversion gates were shut off around 5:30 pm 5/6/99. 05/04/99 13:09 scottl The T-1 communications line has been restored.Arrived at site at 1300 hrs Confirmed that PC1 and PC2 are collecting data and that the network is functioning. Fired timer tags on Sample room monitor . General Maint. chk fond no other problems. 05/04/99 09:35 scottl confirmed with Pete Peterson COE SYS ADMIN that the T-1 connection at MCJ has been down since 0900 5/3/99 and that US west in working on the problem.. Pete was not sure when it would be back online but will notify us when service has been restored... Called Site SMP, confirmed that data collection pc's are running and collecting data. 05/01/99 13:50 davem McNary SMP personnel report that the PIT tag diversion system at MCJ was deactivated at 11:27AM PDT, and remained inactive until 1:30PM PDT, due to debris blocking the outfall flume. PIT tagged fish exiting the separator during that period passed through a total of four detection coils before exiting the facility through the barge loading boom. 04/30/99 13:50 davem A program error within MULTIMON caused the primary computer to lock up at around 9:28:24 PST on April 30. The situation was discovered and resolved at 11:00 PDT. During this period, normal data collection and diversion activities were maintained by the secondary computer. The complete data set for April 30 was subsequently transferred, and uploaded, to the PTAGIS database. 04/30/99 13:50 carters MCJ-12, A-DIVERSION: Annunciator warnings acknowledged 04/29/99 08:33 dlwarf Removed the log files path in both PCs to stop the screen fragmentation problem. 04/29/99 08:29 dlwarf Construction of new catwalks near the River-2 monitor (coils 40, 42, 44, and 46) is causing all coils to not read when welders are in use.
