Eby and he informed me that Today (12-11-02) at 07:00 the facility went to Primary bypass and that the slide gates were deactivated. At about 07:30 the separator was drained and all fish were sent to the raceways. The facility is done collecting for the year. Also the collection channel will shut down tomorrow (12-13-02) so there will be no fish passing any detection coils. We will be on site tomorrow to verify all information. 12/11/2002 12:06 DGE_Robo PrimaryBypass (PrimaryBypass) changed from 'INACTIVE' to 'ACTIVE' at 2002/12/11 06:52:55 12/11/2002 12:06 DGE_Robo B_SlideGate (B_MotivePower) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2002/12/11 06:49:39 12/11/2002 12:06 DGE_Robo A_SlideGate (A_MotivePower) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2002/12/11 06:49:39 12/11/2002 12:06 DGE_Robo B_SampleGateBypass (B_SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2002/12/11 06:49:26 12/11/2002 12:06 DGE_Robo A_SampleGateBypass (A_SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2002/12/11 06:49:25 12/11/2002 09:14 darren@p 11:ReaderReset,12:InputSyncDetect,12:ReaderReset,13:InputSyncDetect,13:Rea derReset,21:ReaderReset,22:InputSyncDetect,22:ReaderReset,23:InputSyncDete ct,23:ReaderReset,31:ReaderReset,32:InputSyncDetect,32:ReaderReset,33:Inpu tSyncDetect,33:ReaderReset,41:ReaderReset,42:InputSyncDetect,42:ReaderRese t,43:InputSyncDetect,43:ReaderReset,51:ReaderReset,52:InputSyncDetect,52:R eaderReset,61:ReaderReset,62:InputSyncDetect,62:ReaderReset,63:InputSyncDe tect,63:ReaderReset,71:ReaderReset,72:InputSyncDetect,72:ReaderReset,73:In putSyncDetect,73:ReaderReset,81:ReaderReset,82:InputSyncDetect,82:ReaderRe set,83:ReaderReset,84:InputSyncDetect,84:ReaderReset,91:ReaderReset,92:Inp utSyncDetect,92:ReaderReset,93:InputSyncDetect,93:ReaderReset,A1:ReaderRes et,A2:InputSyncDetect,A2:ReaderReset,A3:InputSyncDetect,A3:ReaderReset,A4: InputSyncDetect,A4:ReaderReset,B1:ReaderReset,B2:InputSyncDetect,B2:Reader Reset,B3:InputSyncDetect,B3:ReaderReset,B4:InputSyncDetect,B4:ReaderReset: The alarms were cleared by ! We are in primary bypass now due to a broken water control valve in the collection channel, caused we think by icing -- 10 - 15 degrees at night. The other Primary Bypass events recently have been due to high shad numbers. Will plan to let you know when we dewater and shut down for the year. I checked the site via PCA and found that the transceiver had gone into an overrun condition so I remotely placed the transceiver in standby until I could get on site. When I arrived the transceiver was continuously beeping and messages were flashing across the display. I promptly turned the unit off and then back on. The timer tag would not fire and the display was not present. I finally got the display to read but still could not get the timer tag to fire. I checked inside the monitor for shorted coil wire but everything was intact. The replaced unit will be checked out in the lab and then sent back to Destron-Fearing for repair. 07/23/2002 19:35 DGE_Robo PrimaryBypass (PrimaryBypass) changed from 'ACTIVE' to 'INACTIVE' at 2002/07/23 15:48:25 07/23/2002 19:34 DGE_Robo PrimaryBypass (PrimaryBypass) changed from 'INACTIVE' to 'ACTIVE' at 2002/07/23 14:59:45 07/23/2002 13:27 DGE_Robo A_SampleGateBypass (A_SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2002/07/23 07:09:40 07/23/2002 13:27 DGE_Robo B_SampleGateBypass (B_SBypass) changed from 'ON' to 'OFF' at 2002/07/23 07:07:54 07/23/2002 13:27 DGE_Robo B_SampleGateBypass (B_SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2002/07/23 06:56:47 07/23/2002 13:27 DGE_Robo A_SampleGateBypass (A_SBypass) changed from 'OFF' to 'ON' at 2002/07/23 06:56:46 07/22/2002 19:38 DGE_Robo PrimaryBypass (PrimaryBypass) changed from 'ACTIVE' to 'INACTIVE' at 2002/07/22 14:53:34 07/22/2002 13:57 DGE_Robo PrimaryBypass (PrimaryBypass) changed from 'INACTIVE' to 'ACTIVE' at 2002/07/22 11:21:08 07/21/2002 09:55 scottl@p 33:Overrun,33:TestTagFailure: Coil appears to completely dead. He's tagging ~3000 fish per day, Mon- Thu. Fish are transported or bypassed on alternate days. Twice a week, through August(?), we can expect to see "wads" of PIT tags at the River-1 Exit monitor, as Gordy releases his tag groups from Raceway 9. This will undoubtedly impact coil efficiencies (temporarily) at that monitor, and could conceivably prevent a confirmation of river-return for some tagged fish previously detected at either separator monitor. 06/17/2002 14:38 Dave The COE reports that McNary switched from secondary to primary bypass at 0926h on June 9 for scheduled maintenance of the VBSs. This became unscheduled maintenance when the debris on the VBSs clogged the collection channel screens, and the facility switched to emergency bypass between 0815h and 1345h on June 11. The facility switched out of emergency bypass back into primary bypass between 0915h and 1443h on June 13, and switched back into secondary bypass at 1824h that same day. Why do we care? Because MCJ is dewatered when the facility is in primary bypass, and MCX is dewatered when the facility switches to emergency bypass. So MCJ was without fish to detect for four days, nine hours (6/9/02 08:30 - 6/13/02 17:30 PST), and MCX was without water (and fish) for up to two days, 6.5 hours (6/11/02 07:15 - 6/13/02 13:45 PST). 06/08/2002 17:55 darren@p 83:InputSyncLost,84:InputSyncDetect,84:InputSyncLost,SLC500:CommsFailure: Sync lost on 83 caused alarm on 84. I placed the hwd file for pc2 on the ftp server. I did not place the hwd for PC1 on the ftp until I could verify that the messaging was correct. It has been verified so I will PCA into PC1 and copy that file to the ftp server. 06/03/2002 08:57 darren@p 41:ReaderReset,42:InputSyncDetect,42:InputSyncLost,SLC500:CommsFailure: Alarms on transceivers 41, 42 were caused by a random reader reset. The SLC CommsFailure was due to a "Divert All" and a "Monitor 100" passing over the separator coils right behind one another. 05/31/2002 15:49 Dave There is in fact no data "hole" in the 4:11 gap between MCJ02150.103 and MCJ02150.104. Don picked a great time to take PC1 off line; there were so few detections during that time that they were all stored in the Rocketport buffers, and written into the first few detection lines of MCJ02150.104. There are seven unique tags, with detections across all of MCJ, with a common time stamp of '02/05/30 14:54:36'; these are the buffered records. 05/31/2002 08:53 Darren_C Installed Keyboard tray and set all transceivers to send status reports every 360 minutes or (1) once per file. 05/30/2002 16:15 Don_Warf I created a 5 minute hole in the data at MCJ that started at 14:49:28 and ended about 14:54:36. I created the hole while editing the PLC messages in the hardware files on both PCs. This was to make the messages match Doug C's new PLC status message report. The SLC Comms failure could have been caused by the high volume of fish in the system. The pittag was diverted to the proper place. 05/09/2002 08:52 Don Yesterday at 13:12:08 I created a hole in PC1's file that lasted until 13:14:04. I put markers before and after this hole on PC2's file for patching the hole. I did this to alter the hardware files on both PCs. The hardware files now contain new PLC messages: A SLIDE GATE ON A SLIDE GATE OFF B SLIDE GATE ON B SLIDE GATE OFF These new messages will be sent when either of two new switches mounted on the PLC panel are thrown. This will allow the new reports: DGE Gate Efficiency -- (Beta Release 04/15/02) DGE PLC Values -- (Beta Release 04/06/02) to work properly for MCJ. The PLC program was modified and reloaded at 2:00pm PDT to accommodate these changes. Brad Eby has agreed to use these switches instead of turning off the air to the gates. This will also prevent dry firing of the solenoids and should lengthen their service life. 05/06/2002 11:06 Scott_Li Set the file submission frequency to upload 4 times per day. 05/03/2002 10:08 Darren_C Files are set to 4 per day on PC1 and PC2. 04/28/2002 16:41 darren@p 51:ReaderReset,52:InputSyncDetect,52:InputSyncLost: Alarm was generated by a random reader reset. I also installed a new map file, MCJ02109.MAP. This new map file references the new AC-100 group, and also adds a NULL diversion action (monitor only) for AC-100 tags detected at the A- and B-Separator control gates. I also re-activated the default (divert-all-tags) condition at the A- and B-Separator control gates. The net result of these activities is that, when the separator gates are pneumatically enabled, unidentified PIT tags and Action Codes 71 & 255 will be diverted at those gates through the A- or B-Diversion monitors to the River-2 Exit monitor; tags in the AC-100 group will NOT be diverted at the separator gates, and will be candidates for SbyC diversion at the control gates (MX2) maintained by NMFS expressly for the transportation study. In the (normal) case during the spring where the separator gates are NOT mechanically activated, all fish, including any PIT tags, will encounter the MX2 control gates. The Site Tally report has been updated and verified. Questions have been raised about MCJ missing fish that MCX has detected. Raw data downloaded directly from the separator monitor transcievers at MCJ have been cross referenced with data stored in PTAGIS. No material discrepancies have been identified. Note that at times, the McNary full bypass gate diverts fish seen at the MCX PIT tag monitors directly to the river, bypassing MCJ. The times of these bypasses are recorded in the "Raw Interrogation Files" located at www.pittag.org/Data_and_Reports Note also, that when there are many fish in the MCJ separator and many fish decide to leave 'at once', it is likely that fish will be missed on the juvenile transcievers. This was observed during ISO transceiver tests at McNary in 1998. Please let Carter Stein or Dave Marvin know if you notice further discrepancies. Thank you for your patience. --Carter 04/18/2002 16:27 Carter_S From: Ocker, Paul A NWW Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 1:05 PM Hello All, The Mid Columbia Chinook transport study at McNary is starting to happen as the first group of released fish (From the Entiat Hatchery) is starting to arrive (7 on Tuesday, 34 on Wednesday). We are collecting now and anticipate loading fish on the barge starting on the 19th of April. Because of the loading line setup (from my understanding), fish from the B-side can not be loaded onto the barge while bypass is going on. Therefore, (based on the suggestion of Bill Hevlin at FPOM) for the period of time that it may take to load one raceway onto a barge, from about 6 or 7 am for about an hour, fish will be full flow bypassed until after loading has occurred. Based on detections of PIT tags at McNary in 2001 between April 1 and June 15 (according to DART), approximately 3.9-5.6% of H/W chinook/steelhead pass the detectors during any single hour during that time period of 6am to 9am. Those people trying to look at the efficiency of the full flow detector should keep this in mind when looking at detection efficiencies. Brad and Bobby, we will probably need to know the start and end times the facility is in full flow bypass during that time period. In addition, it will be left up to the discretion of the personnel loading the barge as to which barge hold the fish goes into. The fish will be put in the holds with fish transported from the other projects with the understanding that we do not want fish regularly deposited into the holds with either the lowest or highest density. We would prefer that the loading occur randomly. Again from my understanding, the hold density data sheets are carried on the barge and can be consulted prior to loading. Please forward this to anyone else who may need this information. Paul A. Ocker Fishery Biologist USACE - Walla Walla 04/16/2002 19:02 Carter_S THE PROBLEM: ================================ Since around 15:00 April 9, 2002, data from PIT tag site code MCJ (McNary Juvenile) has included interrogation events from the 2001 out-migration. The cause of the problem was that transciever buffers that contained data from last season, were downloaded into the production data file, which was then automatically loaded into PTAGIS. All tag codes in the buffers were given date/time stamps of the time of the buffer download event. Only buffers from transceivers 81, 82, 83 and 84 were downloaded into files MCJ02099.105 and MCJ02099.106. WHO THIS AFFECTS, and WHAT TO DO. ================================= If you have report files generated from the PTAGIS telnet application with data from site code MCJ between April 9 after 15:00 through Tuesday, April 16 at 16:30 PST, you need to re-generate them. We will update the TMT data sets after step 3, below. STATUS: ================================== 1. The 'Buffered' data has been removed from the main obs_data table in PTAGIS. 2. The 'Buffered' data has been removed from the raw interrogation files and new fish records will be processed during the next batch load event. 3. After #2 above is completed, the obs_by_day, obs_site and obs_main tables will be patched. (See the "2000 PIT Tag Specification Document" for descriptions of these tables). We expect to complete the patch by 17:00 PDT April 17, 2002. I apologize for the inconvenience. --Carter 04/16/2002 15:41 Carter_S Buffers from River-1 Exit, Coils 81, 82, 83, 84 dumped to MCJ02099.105 on April 9, 2002 contained records from 2001 that were re-processed. Figured out why. Creation and placement of the "TAG02099.BUF" file in the MCJ PC1-Data directory gummed up the works for PTTP. I manually FTP'd TAG02099.BUF to our server at /pub/multimon/Site_Configurations/MCJ, and deleted the remote copy. PTTP was much happier after that. All current MCJ data files are now resident on the PTAGIS server. 04/09/2002 18:41 Dave I updated the Multimon platform at McNary (PC1 and PC2) with MCJ02099.MAP and MCJ02099.DB. The database contains 2400 tags (AC 71) for Randy Absolon's PIT tag complement to the MCN turbine efficiency study. The PIT tag work was apparently requested by NMFS & BPA. The new map file explicitly diverts the AC-71 tags at the A- and B-Separator gates. THE GATES MUST BE OPERATIONAL FOR TAGS TO BE DIVERTED. In order to divert ONLY AC-71 tags, I de-activated the first two DU definitions in the map file. This means that the default action for PIT tags detected at the A- and B-Separator monitors is not "NOTFound" rather than the previous "DivertALL". Subsequent to the completion of this study, and before the A- and B-Separator gates are put into production action, all DU's will need to be re-activated in order to properly sort and route the general population of PIT-tagged fish through the diversion system. 04/09/2002 15:50 carters@ Corps contractors neglected to connect fiber from River-1 Exit coils.
