This occurred on Sept. 22, between 14:45 and 14:53, due to a power outage at the facility. The extended outage exceeded the capacity of the UPS, and affected both data collection computers. The system-wide outage also resulted in loss of power to the transceivers. Problem was that PC had bad checksum at bootup after power outage.Entered CMOS setup, reconfigured default values, rebooted PC. Stopped Multimon prior to actually to opening an interrogation file, Corrected system time and date to within 1 second of PC1 clock, restarted multimon, system is back into production. Suggest that during the winter downtime at all sites, the CMOS batteries be replaced in all interrogation pc's. A ten-minute outage last night (9/18) occurred between 21:38:24 and 21:48:55 (PST), and a three-minute outage occurred this morning (9/19) between 05:41:19 and 05:44:30. During these intervals, the computers running the data reporting software operated without interruption, as they were each protected with a UPS. However, the PIT tag transceivers are not power-protected, and so shut off during these outages. The facility is currently operating in Primary Bypass mode, and so only the four full-flow antennas (01 - 04) were potentially impacted by these outages. He verified that PC1 and PC2 were up and collecting data. I was unable to conact anyone at the adult trap. I then contacted Solt Monitoring Personnel at MCJ. It was stated that the Power House has trouble with their internet service earlier this morning and reboot all their machines. It was verified that PC1 and PC2 were collecting data. I will check later today to see if the internet connectivity problem has been resolved. The timer tag did fire but was not registered as a timer tag. The alarm on antenna D3 was investigated earlier this month but everything was working, the problem may be the result of a bad sync output from transceiver D2, until either fails we will not be able to determine which one to replace. This failure will not have a negative impact on the reading efficiencies. Bobby Johnson estimated that approximately 12 fish died; the rest were returned alive to the McNary tailrace. Most of these fish were PIT-tagged at various locations in the mid-Columbia, and diverted to the McNary raceways as part of the COE's transportation study. All transceivers were checked for tuning. The facility was in Primary Bypass so no sticks were passed through the separator monitors. I chekced on transciever D2 and D3 for a "sync" problem. D3 had multiple alarms in the buffer the primary one was "OSC" which will reamin in the buffer until the transceiver has been placed into "standby" and then back into a "read" mode. This action cleared the buffer and also restored the "sync" between D2 and D3. I was unsuccessful in trying to break this sync signal. I will monitor this transceiver over the weekend to see if the "sync" is lost again. Currently everything is working correctly. The 2 mins is needed to capture the 'AC POWER ON' message after a power outage. The MM machines should be fully booted and running within 2 mins of power being returned. Hopefully this will eliminate the erroneous sample rates being reported as well. New PV300 programs were loaded for A and B gates as well as for C and D gates. The PV's will now dynamically update if values are changed by means other than through the PV. All gate times were verified to be as they were found. Site personnel were notified it would be safest to reset the sample rates in the am since the PLC has a new program in it. The site is in Primary Bypass today and the sample gates have been shut off so reloading the PLC did not affect the sample in any way. C gate's air pressure was raised to 90 PSI to match D gate. Tags were not properly diverted at the B-Raceway ("D") gate. I discovered that I had provided the wrong bitmask for AC-36 (Mid-Columbia Transport Evaluation Steelhead) detected at the "D" gate. When an AC-36 tag was detected on the "D" coils, it sent the '800' bitmask rather than the correct '1000' bitmask; this caused the A-Raceway ("C") gate to activate. This explains Alan's observation of activity at the "C" gate when no PIT-tagged fish were present. I verified that the AC-254 and AC-255 tags were correctly "masked" to '1000' on the "D" gate, which also explains why the sticks that Alan through were correctly diverted. I reviewed the entire map file, and verified that all other Action Codes were present, that they mapped to the correct bitmasks at the gate monitors, and that all diversion units were correctly identified. During this process, I discovered that the counter function was not enabled for four DU's: A-Rcwy Gate, B-Rcwy Gate, Full Flow Pipe, and Adult Fish Return. In this case the counters have no impact on tag diversions (especially the monitor-only DU's), but the lack of counts inhibited my diagnosis of the problem. I corrected the bitmask error, and enabled all of the DU counters, and implemented the changes in map file MCJ05107.MAP. The new map was loaded onto MCJ-PC1 at 9:43 this morning. (It was created and installed on MCJ-PC2 a few minutes earlier.) Only AC-31 tags should be diverted to the raceways from the "C" and "D" gates; all other tagged fish should be routed to the tailrace, along with the untagged population, through the River-1 Exit monitor. Few, if any, target fish are expected to be seen below the separator today, as the facility is in primary bypass. I will verify that the gates are correctly diverting AC-31 tags tomorrow, after the facility flips back to secondary bypass and collection. He reported that the B-Raceway Diversion Gate (D gate) count in the last 24 hours is at about 27 operations (probably from my sticktest and troubleshooting last night) and that the A-Raceway Diversion Gate (C gate) count is at about 750. He uses the counts to know how many fish are in the raceway to be barged. The DGE report (As of Sun Apr 17 07:19:38 PDT 2005) for the last 24 hours shows that the B-Raceway Diversion Gate has seen 671 fish operating at 5% efficiency and that the A-Raceway Diversion Gate has seen 145 fish operating at 99% efficiency. He said the C-gate apppears to operate with no fish visibly in the flume which is consistent with the count at ~750 and only 145 PIT Tag detections. While I was onsite last night I heard the C-gate operate and noted that the time was 21:11 on my cell phone. An examination of the raw file shows no PIT Tags detected between 20:05 and 20:23 (daylight savings offset) on transceivers C1 through C4. More info will be posted as it becomes available. 04/16/2005 22:03 Alan_Bro The DGE report (As of Sat Apr 16 19:15:00 PDT 2005) showed that the 'B- Raceway Diversion Gate' was operating at 11% efficiency with 102 fish. I called the separator tech and had him verify that the D-gate switches were set to on and that the Op-mode was set to reverse. He then fired the test switch. The description he gave of how the gate operated indicated that they were working properly. I drove to the facility, checked the transceivers and gate and found them all to be operating properly. I then had the tech throw 20 sticks while I watched the gate for timing issues. All sticks diverted properly. Possibly a database or DGE report problem exists. I will make some calls in the morning and see if I can get to the bottom of this. During verification of the firmware upgrade it was found that transceivers 81 and 84 could not receive commands from the platform although they can still send data to the platform.
