The following problems with remote sites were detected; rcx: Last data submission was received on Fri Dec 17 0:00:56 PST 2004 Please check this out. 12/10/2004 10:04 Alan_Bro After much PCAnywhere consternation I was able to manually push RCX04343.G and RCX04343.H to PTAGIS. They were in the archive folder. 12/09/2004 08:03 Alan_Bro I'm investigating yesterday's six hour file gap. More info as it becomes available. 11/29/2004 10:02 Alan_Bro Responding to the reloading of interrogation files in the last week, it was discovered that files were not consistently being moved into the archive folder. I manually moved files that have already been sent to PTAGIS from the data folder to the archive folder. PTAGIS Field Operations will continue to monitor. 11/22/2004 15:56 Jezorek On 22 November 2004, I was at RCX to install MiniMon 1.4.5. Data collection was interrupted from about 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Ian 10/30/2004 10:23 Alan_Bro If this doesn't rectify itself this weekend, PTAGIS Field Operations will take care of it Monday morning. Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2004 10:15:03 -0700 (PDT) From: pittag@psmfc.org Subject: Problems with remote data sites... To: Ian_Jezorek@usgs.gov, sitemaint@psmfc.org The following problems with remote sites were detected; rcx: Last data submission was received on Sat Oct 30 0:00:40 PST 2004 Please check this out. 10/25/2004 09:11 Jezorek On 10/19/04 I was at RCX to retune antennas after hearing from Brad Peterson via Earl Prentice, that having observed the antenna diagnostic screen on the actual MUX could have screwed up the tuning. Retuning the MUX made little difference in read ranges, slightly more on several antennas, slightly less on several others. I also beefed up the anchoring cordage on the antennas and attempted to install MiniMon 1.4.5. I was unsucessful at installing MiniMon 1.4.5 and the system was left running 1.4.4. Data collection was interrupted from 0940 to 1530. Ian 10/20/2004 09:36 Darren I spoke with Ian Jezorek this morning and he had trouble while loading the new Minimon V1.4.5. Yesterday and had to reload V1.4.4 that is why there is a file gap of over 2hrs. I wil try and PCA into this site today and push the files manually, we have been experiencing phone problems periodically in the area and that may be the cause of the sparatic loading events for this site. 10/10/2004 11:34 dlwarf Site not loading. Will investigate on Monday. 10/08/2004 15:36 Jezorek On 10/07/04, Earl Prentice, Ian Jezorek, and Kyle Martens were at RCX to change tranceivers and perform some maintenance. We installed a new Mux unit and changed a cable to Antenna 6. We also repaired a pin on the cable to Antenna 3. The system was running well when we left. Data collection was interrupted from 0945 to 1600. Ian 10/03/2004 14:39 Troy I attempted to PCA into RCX and could not get the modem to answer. I left an email with Ian asking that he check into this if he has a chance tomorrow. We will make another attempt tomorrow. 09/27/2004 08:24 Jezorek On Friday September 24, Earl Prentice and I were on site from approximately 10 am to noon for some equipment testing. There is a problem with the new multiplexor not holding the antennas in tune; cause of this problem is unknown. Data collection was interrupted during this time. Ian 09/23/2004 10:55 Darren_C I was notified by Ian Jazorek that Earl prentice may be on-site tomorrow (9-24-04) to run some read range diagnostics on the detection system. He also stated that when he arrived yesterday (9-22-04) that everything was running properly and collecting data. The system was rebooted to try and alleviate some of the intermittent communication problems that we are experiencing at this site. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 09/22/2004 15:46 Jezorek On 9/22/04, I was on site from approximately 14:30 to 15:00 hrs. I cycled power on the modem and restarted MiniMon to try to kick in communication with PTAGIS again. Also tried to set the new transceiver to send diagnostics reports every hour. Ian 09/21/2004 16:06 Darren_C I notified Ian that the site has not sent files since this morning. He said that he may be on-site tomorrow and would contact me to solve this situation if the files still have not loaded. I was unable to get into the site computer via PCA. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 09/21/2004 15:35 Jezorek On 17 September, Earl Prentice and Bruce Johnasson were at RCX from 10 am to 4 pm. The transceiver was off for portions of this time period. The antenna cable to antenna 2 was respliced. The site was quite noisy, read ranges were not good. 09/16/2004 14:41 Scott_Li Per Ian Jezorek, Earl Prentice will be onsite tomorrow morning to repair an antenna and will help with rebooting of the data collection computer and the telephone modem in order to restore the data connection to PTAGIS. Just a hunch but I wonder if the phone line somewhere between Steve the land owners house and the telephone switch is possibly getting wet or has an intermittent connection? 09/16/2004 09:47 Scott_Li The site has not uploaded files since Wed Sep 15 18:01:32 PST 2004. Was unable to access the data collection computer via PCA. Will Ian Jezorek and see if he can help resolve the problem. 09/10/2004 10:26 Don_Warf September 7th, 2004. From approximately 11:30am to 6:30pm the site was down. The purpose of the outage was to change out the transceiver for a newer version. Antenna 2 has a break in the antenna cable located at the splice to the underwater connector's pigtail and was left turned off. Antennas 1 and 6 had changes made to their capacitor values to better work with the multiplexer auto-tuning circuit. Antenna 6 has very high noise and consequently has very little read range. Entry submitted by Bruce Jonasson, 10 Sep 04. 08/29/2004 12:03 Troy Manually pushed the files as this site had failed to load since early this morning. Will continue to monitor for future instances. 08/29/2004 09:11 Troy noticed that RCX has not loaded since early this morning. Will continue to monitor until the next load. If it hasn't loaded by the next load I will go into the office and attempt to PCA in. 08/27/2004 14:12 Alan I PCA'd into the interrogation computer and manually pushed RCX04240.A - RCX04240.D to the database. 08/27/2004 11:44 Jezorek On 25 August, I was onsite at about 1530hrs because the system was not sending files to PTAGIS. I cycled power on the modem and computer and manually sent in one file, all connections appeared to be ok. On 19 August 2004 at about 0600 hrs, the #2 antenna at RCX was showing 0Amps, this continued untill 23 August 2004 about 1000hrs when amperage retuned to normal. On 24 August, Ian Jezorek, Earl Prentice, and Pat Connolly were on site to to investigate and potentially replace the #2 antenna. Testing indicated that the problem was most likely in the transceiver, Brad Peterson concurred with this theory. The #2 antenna was left in place though was not drawing power. The transceiver was in and out of operation from about 1100hrs to 1500hrs on 24 August. Ian J. 08/26/2004 08:09 scottl Ian J. from USFS rebooted the comuter yesterday afternoon in order to try and correct the problem with the upload process... Looks as if this was successful, Will ask Ian to document the event and time.. 08/25/2004 09:22 Scott_Li The site has not loaded since yesterday at noon. Tried to remotely access computer but was unsuccessful. Called and left message with Ian Jezorek USGS to see if he maybe in the area and help diagnose and fix the problem.. Will follow up and get resolution.. 08/21/2004 13:00 scottl_l Noticed that the site has not loaded since last night.. While monitor through out the next load cycle before action is taken. 08/16/2004 11:23 Darren_C I was able to PCA into site and manually send the files. PSMFC will monitor for future loads to ensure automation. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 08/15/2004 10:10 scottl Thew site has not loaded data files sionce 8/15/04 @ 00:00 hrs.. Will try and verfiy data is being collected. 07/28/2004 16:48 Alan_Bro I spoke with the landowner and verified that minimon is still collecting data. We were unsuccessful trying to manually upload the files. There appear to be issues with the wireless modem. We will continue to investigate. 07/26/2004 12:27 Alan I manually pushed RCX04208.A, RCX04208.B and RCX04208.C to the database. PTAGIS Field Operations will continue to monitor. 07/26/2004 10:50 Alan_Bro We're working on it... Alan Brower Engineering Technician Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission alan_brower@psmfc.org 509-735-2773 x4 07/08/2004 14:54 Prentice On 7 July 2004 Bruce Jonasson and Earl Prentice began work at Rattlesnake Cr. site to work on an antenna problem and to check tag read range. During the period of 1030 and 1500 the system was turned on and off. Antenna 2 was not functioning when we arrived. The cable and all connectors were inspected and cleaned. The capacitors inside of the antenna were checked and the inductance of the antenna checked. After the antenna and cables were reconnected the system worked. We believe a lose connector or corrosion on a connector was the problem but nothing was confirmed. The read distance on each antenna was checked and found to be satisfactory (up to 12 inches above the antenna coil). The removal of the AC fiber optic modem (replaced with a DC unit) that took place about two week ago solved a long time read range problem we have experienced at the site. 07/02/2004 18:56 scott PCA'd into site was unusucessful.. Called Steve S and had him reboot the computer but not before stopping the Minimon App. to preserve the current file being built. Steve manually pushed files to PTAGIS. Verified that the file were in the recieve cue. Will be onsite next week to install some PCA patches and run disk utilities in order to try and stabilize the system and make it more reliable.. 07/02/2004 16:32 scott The site has not loaded since this morning.. Tried to PCA into the site but the line come up with a busy signal.. Suspect that Steve S. maybe on the modem line but unsure.. Will follow up this evening to ensure data is being collected. 07/01/2004 14:11 Jezorek On 6/14/04 at about 8:00am, antenna 6 had the power cord pulled out of the antenna. On 6/17/04 power was restored to antenna 6 at 11:20am. 07/01/2004 12:14 Darren I was on-site today (7-1-04) to check the PC bios settings for power control after a loss of power. The setting was set to "stay off" it was changed to "power on" and was tested. I submitted all files generated when I was trying to get into the bios and verified communications with the Multiplexer. We will watch to see if the PC returns to operation if there is another lengthy power outage. 06/30/2004 10:03 Darren_C I checked the "raw" files prior to the power outage on Saturday and then again this morning (6-30-04) and the "tag count" in the status report indicates that there have been no tags recorded. This means that even though there is a file gap of 2 days 16 hrs, there were no Pittag detections when the power was restored to the MUX transceiver. Earl Prentice will be on- site next Wednesday and he will download the buffer to verify that no Pittag detections were lost. I am trying to setup a time with Steve Stampfli to be on-site tomorrow to ensure that the PC will re-boot after power is lost and then regained. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 06/29/2004 00:50 Darren I was able to contact Steve Stampfli at 16:15 this afternoon. I verified that the PC was not powered up and was not collecting Data. I had Steve return power to the PC and then had him verify that the Shut Down menu was not checked to "shut down" the PC but was marked to "restart" the PC. I also PSMFC staff confirmed that the PC was setup to restart after a power outage. The file gap of 2 days 16 hours and 19 minutes cannot be filled. I also spoke with Ian Jezorick and he said that due to the low water volumes and high temperatures that there was not very much fish movement and that if any Data was lost it probably be a small percentage. 06/28/2004 11:28 Darren I was in contact with Steve Stampfli and he informed me that there was a power outage on Saturday between 10:00 and 12:00 that lasted for 2-3 hrs. He said that he would be more than willing to check the status of the PC and Modems when he arrives home today. I have scheduled a call time of 16:15 to try and verify the condition of the PC and possibly rectify what problems we may find. If the problem can't be rectified over the phone I asked him if we could have someone from Kennewick down there tomorow to fix whatever may be broke and he said that would not be a problem. 06/28/2004 08:28 Darren_C I have been unsuccessful in trying to establish a PCA session since yesterday. I have been trying to get in touch with the land owner (Steve Stampfli), I have left messages with Ian Jezorick and Earl Prentice. There is a 3-day notice that needs to be given to Steve before we can get onto his property. I will keep trying to contact all three until the situation can be resolved. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 06/12/2004 18:18 Alan Responding to the message: rcx: Last data submission was received on Sat Jun 12 0:06:35 PST 2004 I PCA'd into the RCX computer and manually uploaded RCX04164.A - RCX04164.E. 06/10/2004 15:24 Jezorek At about 12:00 hrs on 6/7/2004 the transceiver at RCX was shorted due to an infestation of ants in the power converter box. That's right...ants. High technology thwarted by tiny crawling insects. Many ants were killed in the ensueing battle, all biologists returned safely. Data collection resumed on 6/9/2004 at 12:20:06 hrs. Ian 06/08/2004 08:36 Scott_Li PCA'd into the interrogation computer to see why the site had not been loading, the below snippet was taken from the log file. Ian Jezorek has been notified and is attempting to determine the cause. 05/13/2004 08:25 Alan Manually uploaded RCX04133.G - RCX04134.B via PCA without incident. 05/06/2004 10:10 Dave I backfilled the RCX data set with RCX04101.ALL. This file patches a previous hole in data collection between April 10 - 13. I reformatted interrogation records retrieved by Ian Jezorek from the transceiver buffer, and wrapped these data with the proper file header and footer. I also annotated the file with a description of the purpose and method of this patch. 04/30/2004 16:02 Scott_Li Responded to the "Problem with Remote Data Site" alert that RCX had not been uploading..Left message with Ian this morning to see if he could help with shaking loose the RCX platform but no response.. Called Steve Stamplfi and asked him to assist in resetting the computer and radio modem. After the reset, I was able to successfully login and manually unitiate the file transfer. Checked to see that the files were submitted and they were...Will pull Minimon log file on Monday to see why the upload process had failed. 04/29/2004 11:08 Jezorek Ian Jezorek was on site on 4/29/04 to download the tag codes in the buffer at RCX. Data collection was stopped from 08:54 to 09:27. Ian Jezorek 04/15/2004 11:25 abrower@ I PCA'd into the site and manually uploaded the tardy files. PTAGIS Kennewick will continue to monitor. 04/13/2004 14:45 Scott_Li The status of RCX is as follows... Saturday, April 10th @ ~ 10:33 am PST, the Minimon application was terminated by user as confirmed by the Minimon Log file. This means that someone, more than likely by mistake, physically terminated the application.Ian Jezorek visited the site this morning and data collection resumed @ 08:17 am PST. All attempts made by PTAGIS-Kenn. to resolve the problem over the weekend but were unsuccessful. As of now, the computer is collecting data, communications have been restored, PCA is actively waiting for incoming call and verified. Manually sent any available outstanding data files to PTAGIS. 04/12/2004 08:38 Alan I spoke with Ian Jezorek this morning. He will be onsite later today or (more probably) tomorrow to remedy the file loading issues. 04/11/2004 08:12 Alan All sites were checked for loading and efficiencies. RCX has not loaded files since 6:00AM 4/10/2004. I'm still awaiting contact from landowner Steve Stampfli regarding resolution to the intermittent file loading from that site. No other problems found. 04/09/2004 20:01 Alan Automated upload has not been sucessful since 6:00AM 4/9/2004. I attempted to PCA into the site without success. I have left messages with Ian Jezorek and the landowner Steve Stampfli in hopes of getting an onsite verification that data is still being collected, but those messages are unanswered at this point in time. I will continue to attempt to make contact with Steve Stampfli until the issue is resolved, either by his efforts or by gaining his permission to visit the site and remedy the problem myself. 04/07/2004 14:36 Jezorek On 7 April 2004, Ian Jezorek and Kyle Martens redeployed antenna 6 into the water at the RCX site. The antenna had been damaged during the winter and we had not been able to redeploy due to high water. Ian J. 03/26/2004 14:01 Don_Warf Manually sent files via PCA. 03/12/2004 14:08 Alan With some difficulty I was able to PCA into the site and saw that MiniMon is still creating files, but the computer is having problems (most likely with PCA) and needs a reboot. Calls to the landowner have gone unanswered. Scott will be onsite Monday to remedy the situation. 02/23/2004 09:54 Jezorek Now hear this, On 28 January 2004, at 1300 hrs, antenna 6 broke open and filled with water. On 18 February 2004, Earl Prentice and Ed Nunnallee were at RCX to replace Antenna 6. Antenna 6 was replaced but not placed in the Creek due to high water. Following the replacement of the antenna (approx. 1200hrs), communications were not reestablished between the MUX tranceiver and MiniMon. On 20 February 2004, Ian Jezorek went to the site and reestablished communications between the MUX and MiniMon at 0930hrs. Following this action, MiniMon was logging data but stopped sending files to PTAGIS. PSMFC personnel reestablished communications to PTAGIS. Take home message: from 1200hrs on 18 Feb. to 0930 hrs on 20 Feb., there was no data collected from RCX. As of this writing, antenna 6 remains out of the Creek. Ian Jezorek 02/20/2004 16:45 Darren_C I PCA'd into site and found that the files were uploaded at 16:03. I tried to check the time frame for the uploads and as soon as I entered the configure tab under upload I was prompted to select a dial-up connection. I agreed and it took me to the connections tab of the uploader. Once there I noticed that there were settings for anything. I proceeded to fill out the connection, user name, password, and server, but I neglected to insert a re-dial attempt or a process timeout. This caused a error - "type mismatch" and stopped the auto upload process. With the help of John Tenney we figured why the error was generated and filled out all necessary boxes. Minimon was stopped and shut down and reinitialized to verify settings were still in the upload configurations. I will be watching this weekend for any problems with the load process. 02/13/2004 09:33 Jezorek On 2/12/04, Sean Casey, Brad Petersen, Earl Prentice, and Ian Jezorek were at the RCX site to install a new MUX. Data collection was suspended from 1030 to 1613hrs. The number six antenna had water in it and was removed from the site. The number 6 antenna has been non-operational since high water on 1/28/04. The new MUX appears to be working well, read ranges in the 5-6" range. Ian J 02/12/2004 13:16 Scott_Li Earl Prentice reports that antenna 06 has been damaged by a rock and is not operational. He is not sure when a replacement antenna will be available. A site visit by PTOC is scheduled for tommorrow to correct a save passwd problem is Win98. 01/12/2004 08:41 Scott_Li After looking into the reason why the site has not atuo upoaded for 3 day's, again the PPP passwrd in the dial-up settings is gone... This same situation was corrected late last week and then again failed.. Will visit site to correct this nuisance by deleting the Gorgenet PPP account and recreating a new one.. This should correct the problem... 01/11/2004 12:07 scottl_l The site has not sunbitted data files since day 04009. files 04009.C thru 04010Aand B were manually retreived last Friday and are sitting in the Smolt server in Kennewick waiting upload. Will try to PCA into the site and push files or at least ensure data is being collected. Worst case is PTOC will be onsite Monday to correct the situation.... Will update later today with more info.. 01/09/2004 08:16 Scott_Li RCX automated upload process has been reinstated. Ian J. was in the area and authenticated the ISP PPP passwrd for the data collection PC. PCA'd to the PC to check status, everthing checks out O.K. 01/07/2004 09:47 Scott_Li Manually retrieved the data files from the local data collection pc and e-mailed them to ptagis. This was nessesary due to athentication problems with the dial-up PPP account to Gorgenet. For some reason the passwrd for this account was lost in the PPP settings. Wierd. Will continue to manually retieve and send files up until the time this is corrected. Cannot correct situation without onsite support to validate login info successfullly 1 time so that the passwrd settings are saved in the PPP dial-up settings. Ignore the fact that I tried to send them to Ptagis rather than intdata. 01/01/2004 12:02 Dave Initialized new event log for 2004. 2003 event log has been archived. ####End of Event Log for RCX###
