EVENT LOG FOR SITE RCX Most recent activity to be listed first. First line of each entry lists date, time and who is reporting. Subsequent lines of each entry aligned under Time column. Do not use tabs, only spaces. Date Time Who What ---------- ----- -------- ----------------------------------------------- 11/23/2005 09:51 Alan_Bro Manually created RCX05326.A9 from RCX05326.A1.TMP and submitted it via email. No further data exists to fill the 09:28 gap on 11/22/2005. 11/22/2005 12:51 Jezorek I was at RCX at 10:15hrs on 22 Nov. 2005 to investigate the failure of the system to upload data the previous night. I found the computer had crashed, details on the error messages were provided to Alan Brower and Scott Livingston at PSMFC. I rebooted the computer and restarted MiniMon data collection at about 10:30hrs. There will be a data gap from 0100hrs on 11/22 to when I rebooted. Ian 11/22/2005 10:33 Alan_Bro Ian Jezorek is looking into why RCX has not loaded since midnight. 10/18/2005 14:46 Jezorek On 18 Oct 2005 I was at RCX for range testing. Data collection was interrupted and restarted several times between 0845 and 0945. Ian 10/04/2005 08:14 Alan_Bro Manually pushed RCX05276.B1 to PTAGIS via PCA. 08/31/2005 08:31 Alan_Bro Manually submitted RCX05242.H1 via PCA. 08/18/2005 10:41 Don_Warf Per Earl Prentice: Antenna 2 and its cable were replaced and the caps in antenna 1 were upgraded. This happened yesterday from 10:00am to 4:30pm with the transceiver turned off during the duration. At Earl's request PSMFC remotely turned on Unique Delay with a setting of 2 minutes. This was done at 9:15 PST. 08/05/2005 14:06 Scott_Li Changed the number of interrogation files created per day from 2 to 8. 08/05/2005 09:28 Scott_Li The data services for this site were converted from dial-up to DSL yesterday 8/4. The data collection platform was taken out of service for ~ 1 hr 4minutes, several files were created between these times but contains no useful information. Informed Brady Alan from USGS of this and he was not concerned due extremely low water levels in the creek, no fish passage. The DSL link proved to be very consistent and solid, very little problems were incurred during the installation. Will provide Dave M with the static addresses for this site 07/29/2005 09:30 Dave At Ian's request, I constructed and uploaded an empty "patch" file, RCX05196.GAP, to provide continuity for a 7.7-day interval during which MiniMon was not operational. According to Ian, no PIT tag detections were recorded to the transceiver's buffer during this period. 07/27/2005 15:19 Jezorek On Fri. 7/22/05 I was at RCX to manually download data. The computer was frozen, I could get no response. No files appear to have been generated between 7/14/05 and my arrival at about 16:00 on 7/22/05. I rebooted the computer and started a new file. On 7/26/05 I checked the computer and downloaded files, all seems to be working. MiniMon has been set to generate only one file a day to minimize the number of files that must be submitted via sneakernet. Also on 7/26/05 I dug a trench from the shed to the phone line at the picnic table. Scott L. will hook up a line to be buried in this trench in the very near future. Ian J. 07/27/2005 15:08 Jezorek RCX Interrogation files RCX05192.D1 - RCX05195.G1 are on their way. Ian J. 07/22/2005 12:44 Jezorek On 14 July 2005, Bruce Johnason and Ian Jezorek were at RCX to troubleshoot antenna 2 and check tuning on the multiplexor. Data collection was suspended from about 11am to 4:30pm. Antenna 2 appears to have a bad cable. Antenna 1 had a read range of only about 1" off the tube and probably needs internal capacitance to be adjusted. Ian 07/15/2005 09:00 Jezorek RCX int. file RCX05184.H1 is delinquent but on it's way in. Ian 07/13/2005 16:25 Darren_C PSMFC was on site today to verify the phone line that is terminated by the picnic bench. I was able to run a tone trace on the phone wire as well as measurements with an ohmmeter. The 2 line ohmed out at 16.8ohms, and the tone trace was successful. I also verified that the computer platform was in data collection mode. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 07/12/2005 15:25 Jezorek RCX interrogation files RCX05188.A1 - RCX05192.D1 heading in. Ian 07/12/2005 15:00 Jezorek I was at RCX to attempt to bring the MUX into tune. Data collection was interuppted from 10:07 - 11:00 and from 13:01 - 14:00. The tuning seems to be off due to the change in load on the antennas since the water has dropped. I was not succesful in retuning. I will be at RCX on 7/15 with Bruce Johnassen to address this. Read ranges are poor on the antennas, I could not get a standard tag to read on any of them. Also, Ant. 2 is showing 0A so not reading at all, it has been operating sporadically lately, not sure the exact date in went to 0A. Ian 07/12/2005 14:05 Jezorek RCX interrogation files RCX05184.E1 - RCX05187.H1 on their way. Ian 07/06/2005 14:20 Scott_Li Not knowing the disposition of the data collection platform, all attempts were made to contact the land owner for permission to access the PIT- system. PTAGIS personnel were in the area and ready to respond but without the required permission slip, the site visit was forgone.Left Ian J. a phone message explaining the situation. 07/06/2005 09:20 Scott_Li The site has not loaded data files since last Sunday. Called Steve S the land owner to request permission for ptagis staff to stop by this afternoon and check the data collection platform. Steve was unavailable, left message. If Steve responds favorably, the situation will be dealt with this afternoon. 07/04/2005 10:40 Alan_Bro This will be addressed from the office tomorrow. ----- Original Message ----- From: pittag@psmfc.org Date: Monday, July 4, 2005 10:15 am Subject: Problems with remote data sites... > The following problems with remote sites were detected; > > rcx: Last data submission was received on Sun Jul 3 12:01:16 PST 2005 > > Please check this out. > 07/01/2005 08:21 Darren PSMFC was on-site Wednesday to solve the communications issue that had been going on for quite some time. When I arrived I found that the PC had a "blue" scrren which displayed an error caused by either software or a new hardware installation. We knew that the version of PC Anywhere was not compatible with XP pro OS. I unistalled version 9.2 and installed version 10.5 this appears to have solved the "blue screen of death". There was a file gap of 2+ days which was caused by the "blue screen" and during the installation and testing of PCA there several file gaps created. We also discovered that we could not utilize the PCA application. Everytime we tried to establish a connection we lost the modem for some reason and then we would have to reset the modem so we chose to not let it run. Files have been loading since we have left. We will monitor the site and deal with any failures that may arise. 06/27/2005 15:09 Jezorek RCX had not submitted since June 20th so I went by on June 27th at 13:30 to reboot the computer and to put files on disk in case of data loss. When I arrived the computer had a blue screen up with a message saying that a problem had been detected and windows had shut down to prevent damage. I rebooted the computer and was able to get MiniMon files through 3am of June 27th. Left the computer and MiniMon running. Ian 06/24/2005 08:24 Scott_Li Called Sprint and placed a trouble ticket on the telephone line. Ticket # 3764360. Informed them of the slow connection speeds to the internet and frequent disconnects. Sprint called yesterday and said they had removed a splitter in the line that was installed for the DSL to try and correct the problem. The Sprint Tech indicated he was now connecting at 36 and 38 k baud. The data collection platform is still not sending files and we cannot access it via PCA. The state of data collection pc is unknown. Situation with this site has been escalated. 06/22/2005 09:26 Scott_Li Site has not loaded since Monday 171.C. Will call Ian and or Steve S for possible on-site support. 06/17/2005 08:04 BO4 I'm investigating the whereabouts of the tardy files. 06/09/2005 08:37 Scott_Li The site did not load at the 0300 and 0600 intervals. Tried to PCA into the platform with no success, ring no answer.. Will call Ian J for possible on-site support help.. 06/03/2005 12:07 Alan_Bro On 6/1/2005 I manually submitted RCX05141.G9. This file was created from RCX05141.G.TMP found in the data folder on the decommissioned RCX data collection PC. 06/01/2005 16:30 Alan_Bro The file gaps on 5/27/2005 were created by PTAGIS Field Operations personnel while changing the interrogation PC. 06/01/2005 10:35 Scott_Li The latest information on the DSL account is that the DSL link is NOT up due to a suspected configuration error involving Sprint. As of last Friday, the DSL light on the modem indicated everything was fine, but apparently web browsing was not. The interrogation platform is utilizing the POTS line on the DSL modem, The status of the DSL link is unknown at this time, Will follow up with Sprint for status. 06/01/2005 09:45 Scott_Li This PIT-event is for work done on May 27th,05 PTOC was onsite to replace the existing interrogation computer and to meet Sprint for the DSL install. DLS install went fine but it was found that the wireless data link between the router in Steve's house and the tool shed where the interrogation PC resides was not strong enough to make a connection. Configured Uploader for dialup service through Gorgnet ISP and will continue to use that for data transfer until a solution has been implemented to utilize the DSL link. As it is now, we will approach Steve with the possibility hardwiring the data link from his house to the interrogation computer. Steve has been approached with this option in the past and was receptive to it if the wireless solution continues to be unreliable. Sent delinquent files RCX05138.G to 141.F to PTAGIS. More soon.. 05/28/2005 08:51 Darren A new DSL modem was installed yesterday (5-27-05) inside the house of Steve Stampfli. The wireless connection was not very strong between the house and the shed so the site was placed on a dial-up connection via the connex modems. The connection was tested and files did load at 17:00 hrs but have not loaded since. I will try to get into the site using PCA and will update the event log at a later time. 05/24/2005 12:40 Don_Warf We are currently trying to set up the site for DSL. For unknown reasons, the dialup to Gorgenet has become unstable. 05/20/2005 09:46 Darren_C PSMFC was on site yesterday (5-19-20) to address the non communication issues that we have been experiencing over the past week. The radio modems were replaced to rule out that component as the cause of the lack of uploads. The platform has loaded twice on 5/14/05 and 5/18/05 but I found that although the files did indeed reside on the server side they had not been archived by Minimon as a result of an error during submission. Although the files were copied to a disk and submitted and archived manually, this may happen in the future if the files do happen to make it to the server. PSMFC is addressing these issues and will be back on site next week to try and resolve them. We currently have not been able to connect via PCA. Darren R. Chase PSMFC Systems Engineer (509) 735-2773 ext.3 05/11/2005 09:30 Scott_Li Traveled to site to investigate why the system was not uploading files. After several attempts to get the PC to communicate with the radio modems, it is suspected that the modem within Steve S. house may be defective or just needs reset. The diagnostics indicate the modem is sending out a transmit signal but not getting an acknowledgment back. Tried to copy delinquent data files to a floppy disk but the A drive is also not working. For all intent and purposes, I ran the utility 'Defrag' on the C drive . Drive was extremely fragmented. This seemed to improve the performance of the system dramatically. I strongly suggest that the entire interrogation platform be reconstructed to ensure reliability. This should include hardwiring the telephone line directly to the computer therefore eliminating the radio modems, purge all references to a previous RocketPort installation; noticed in the Modem comms settings that 16 RP Childs are still in the registry. Perform a complete surface scan of the C drive and complete the de-frag routine, replace or clean the A drive and anything else in between. In the interim, will call Steve S and see if he will reset the radio modem in his house and see what happens. Also will inform Ian J of the situation and suggest that someone periodically checks the status of the platform to ensure data is being collected. Due to high numbers of PIT-tag fish through the mainstem bypass facilities, PTOC O@M does not have the personnel to address this situation. At the earliest, PTOC will be onsite the week of May 16th to address these issues. 05/10/2005 08:55 Jezorek On 9 May 2005 I was at the site at about 13:45 to check on tardy data submission. Data is being collected, but the computer is not recognizing the modem. I tried to reboot both the computer and modem unit with no luck (slight interruption in data collection while I was troubleshooting). I spoke to Alan B. at PSMFC, they will handle it from here. Ian 05/09/2005 16:18 Alan_Bro Ian Jezorek reports that the collection PC can no longer find the modem. Minimon is still interrogating. Scott will be onsite tomorrow to investigate further. 05/09/2005 09:28 Scott_Li The site has not loaded since day 05127.D. Called Ian J to see if he could help with the troubleshooting but no answer, left message to call when available. Remote access into the computer was unsuccessful. 05/08/2005 10:35 Scott_Li Will try and contact the site computer and shake loose the uploader and verify data is being collected. 05/02/2005 09:30 Alan_Bro We are looking into the whereabouts of the tardy files. -----Original Message----- From: pittag@psmfc.org [mailto:pittag@psmfc.org] Sent: Monday, May 02, 2005 7:15 AM To: Ian_Jezorek@usgs.gov; sitemaint@psmfc.org Subject: Problems with remote data sites... The following problems with remote sites were detected; rcx: Last data submission was received on Sun May 1 12:00:01 PST 2005 Please check this out. 04/19/2005 08:04 Alan_Bro Ptagis Field Operations is looking into the whereabouts of the tardy files. 04/13/2005 09:35 Scott_Li Manually pushed the A and B files to PTAGIS without problem. Unsure as to why the auto uploads failed. 04/08/2005 10:47 Alan_Bro Manually submitted RCX05097.G, RCX05097.H, RCX05098.A, RCX05098.B, RCX05098.C via PCA. 03/25/2005 09:14 Scott_Li The site had not loaded since file 05083.e, and could not PCA into the site, ring with no answer. With that, called Ian J. for support but was not available. Called Steve S. at home a he was happy to assist. Steve confirmed that Minimon was running and collecting data. PCA appeared to unresponsive. To avoid running Steve through the grinder, I had him reboot the computer and radio modem. At this point we manually sent the data files to PTAGIS and confirmed the upload was successful. On this same topic, Steve indicated that he would approve hard wiring the phone line into the tool shed therefore eliminating the POT's modem. PTAGIS will pursue this option now that Steve is on board. 03/21/2005 11:09 Jezorek On 3/16/05, Ian J. was on site to adjust the VTT settings as per Brad Peterson's recommendation. Data collection was interrupted from 11:22 to 11:30. VTT levels were set to 5% for all six antennas. Ian 01/02/2005 09:22 Darren This site frequently stalls when loading. I will wait to see if the site loads at a later time today. If it has not loaded by this afternoon I will try to PCA into the site and manually send the files. ####End of Event Log for RCX###
