The upper antenna (A1) was installed within the cement outlet structure for the pond and the lower antenna (B!) was installed approximately 50 meters downstream of the acclimation site. These antennas were in series and captured 100% of the detectable area. Fish were transferred from raceway 13 at Winthrop National Fish Hatchery (WNFH) to the back-channel acclimation site on the March 26 for short-term acclimation during the spring months. A forced release occurred on April 22 for coho acclimating on-station at WNFH and a volitional release began on May 1 for coho acclimating within the back-channel. The volitional release was concluded on June 1, when final observations determined that all fish had exited the site. It should be noted that juvenile Spring Chinook and steelhead were also released from the WNFH during this time (April 16 and April 21, respectively) and codes from all three species are recorded within the interrogation files. There were no interruptions to the detection system during the 2009 acclimation season. Early detections prior to the coho release were presumed to be "escapees" and adjustments were made immediately after detections were noticed.
