Date Time Who ---------- ----- -------- 08/28/2009 14:28 Bob_Magi Sampling for juvenile PIT-tagged salmonids with the matrix surface pair-trawl system in the Columbia River estuary in 2009 was concluded on 12 August due to low availability of Pit-tagged fish in the estuary. We deployed with the matrix antenna trawl system in the mid-river exclusively this year and sampled for 1097 hours with 23,247 fish detected. Sampling with two daily crews was conducted from 1 May to 13 June coinciding with the majority of the outmigration through the estuary. We sampled with our shoreline system intermittently from 10 March until 27 April for a total of 42 hours yielding no detections. Fall sampling will not be conducted due to low fish densities resulting in few detections in the estuary during this period, as observed in 2008. 03/31/2009 08:51 Bob_Magi Sampling for juvenile pit-tagged salmonids between river kilometer 61 to 83 using a surface pair-trawl began on 6 March 2009. The 8.5 foot by 10 foot Matrix antenna and trawl consisting of 6-coils (3 front and 3 rear) was and will continue to be deployed 3 days per week until densities of pit-tagged fish increase in the estuary. In 2008 the Matrix system proved twice as effective at detecting pit-tagged fish as the 3 foot-diameter antenna used early in the season resulting in the exclusive use of the newer and larger antenna system. Sampling effort will increase in April to a single shift 5 days per week and eventually 7 days weekly with both a day and a night shift as detections increase. This effort will remain consistent through the high fish density period of the outmigration season. As detection rates decrease (late June or early July) sampling will be reduced to 5 days weekly using one daily shift. The shoreline Matrix system developed in 2007 was and will continue to be used 2 days per week from 12 March until mid April 2009 to sample shoreline oriented pit-tagged fish. This 8.5 foot by 10 foot antenna consists of 2-coils in series and is attached to a surface oriented net that, when deployed, is fixed to an anchor point on the beach and the opposing wing is fixed to a vessel anchored offshore. 2009 Shoreline sampling efforts are focused on detecting pit-tagged fish that may have overwintered in the estuary and other shoreline oriented early migrants. 01/01/2009 00:00 PTOC_Bot Annual log file initiation for TWX #### End of Event Log for TWX ###
