Date Time Who What ---------- ----- -------- ----------------------------------------------- 11/27/2002 11:17 Dave Steve Achord notified us today that they pulled the VC2 trap for the winter on October 30. 11/14/2002 14:00 Dave I modified the admin_addr field in etc/sites to specifically reference ptoc_ken. Event-driven e-mail notifications regarding this site will now be sent to Don, Scott, and Darren, but not to Carter, Dave, John, Todd, or Sean Casey. 10/21/2002 11:29 Dave Disabled PTAGIS check for data file receipt, per Scott's request. 10/18/2002 08:44 Darren_C After speaking with Bill Wassard from NMFS i found out that the reason for the site not loading. The computer is at the home of the person who NMFS hired to watch the sites in Stanley. They are experiencing problems with the hard drive possibly due to weather conditions. He will inform us when the PC is placed back in data collection mode. 10/01/2002 08:15 Don_Warf Notified NMFS that the site has not sent data since Friday. 09/26/2002 09:37 Darren_C After a brief conversation with Bill W. from NMFS in Pasco it was discovered that the generator at this site is out of propane. He has set a scheduled fill up of the tank which will start on Monday. The site will periodically loose power through the weekend but they have a person on site to restart the computer. After Monday the site should be running full time. 09/24/2002 13:56 Don_Warf Bill W. reports that he had a newly hired local person in Stanley boot the laptop. It was found shut down due to either cold or loss of power. Files should be sent on the next load. 09/24/2002 08:30 Don_Warf Attempts to communicate with the site via PCA failed. Notified NMFS of the problem. Bill W. will visit the site to troubleshoot. 09/09/2002 11:48 Darren_C These were the events for VC2 not loading. Bill Wassard visited the site this morning and found that the solar-battery system was drained due to successive cloudy days. The laptop being used at this site will not power itself on when power is restored. I spoke with Tom Ruehle about this problem. We discussed several possible solutions: 1. NMFS hiring a local person to make sure that the laptop is up and running each day. 2. Purchasing a ruggedized laptop that self boots when power is restored and will withstand the temperature swings at Stanley. 3. Improve the solar-battery system so that power is never lost. I will provide Tom with part no.s for the ruggedized laptop. Since the unit will be pulled out in the next few months hiring someone to check the system may be more economically feasible. The ruggedized laptop costs $3500 and may need up to $1500 in firmware. Bill Wassard should have the system up and running sometime today. For future reference, when we get the first automated message of: The following problems with remote sites were detected; vc2: Last data submission was received on Tue Aug 27 18:04:28 PST 2002 Please check this out. We will do the following: 1. Wait until a second error message is sent. (6 hours) 2. After the second error message, confirm loss of communications via PCA. 3. After confirmation, notify NMFS of the problem using both email and a phone call. Please call with any questions. Thanks, Don. 08/28/2002 08:44 Scott_Li The site has not sent files since yesterday, last file submitted was 02239.C. Cannot PCA to VC2 computer therefore do not know the staus of the system. Bill wassard is traveling to the site today and will respond to the situation. Bill will call PTOC Kenn. tommorrow morning with status. Don to call Tom Ruly , NMFS and suggest they purchase an industrial strength PC that is better suited for the extreme temperature condition that the computers are exposed to. 08/06/2002 13:18 Darren_C The I.P. address for this Starband site is 148.64.150.157. 07/25/2002 11:31 Scott_Li The interrogation computer was restarted at ~ 0630 PST. PTOC and NMFS are still working on a long term solution to whatever probelm is causing the PC to turn off. Suspect that either the Battery voltage from the solar array's are dropping off at night to a point that the inverter is kickin out or the laptop computer is just intermittently failing. As an interum solution, we are configuring a desktop PC that will be delivered to the site late next week and will stay in place until an industrial laptop can be purchased that satisfy's the PTOC requirement of being able to completely restore data collection after a power failure without intervention. 07/20/2002 09:38 scott Site appearent is not submitting files. PCA'd to site and could not connect. Will address prob lem on monday. 07/19/2002 15:39 Scott_Li On-site contact Gary Gadwa investigated why the site was off-line and found that the computer was turned off. He looked at the power management setting and verified that PM was turned off in all aspects. The only tangable explanation is that for some reason the power inverter temporarily stopped inverting DC to AC , the laptop ran on battery until it was drained and then died. I looked at every setting that I could find in the cmos and in XP to manage that power switch and the only two options were to shutdown or hibernate. Will investigate further in order to try and hard code the power switch to the on position. If this is not possable, Will look at other option such as a different laptop or possably installing a desktop pc or modifying the switch internally. Also noticed when comms were resotred that the reader was in a chronic overrun condition. Noise report indicated Ave:4% Peak 69% fdxb : 69% . At 13:47 PST- 7/19, temp was 45 celcius. Inverter power at 26.4 vdc. A site visit is scheduled for next week by 1 person from Kennewick and 2 from NMFS. will address problems next week... 07/19/2002 10:32 Scott_Li This site is not sending data files and is not responding to remote access. Informed Steve Achord of the situation and also called our support contact Gary Gadwa to look into the problem . He will call us when he able to respond. Should be sometime today. 07/12/2002 07:51 Darren VC2 site was commissioned on 7-11-02 at about 13:00 PST. VC1 was commissioned on 7-11-02 at about 16:00.
