PIT tag data must be submitted to PTAGIS in well-formatted digital files that meet both the data and file specifications described in the Specifications section. Files can be submitted using PTAGIS-developed software or custom software using the web API. Submissions via email were phased out starting in 2019 and are no longer allowed..
When a file is received, it is placed in the queue to be processed for loading. Each file is processed as a unit and is loaded or rejected as a whole. The final processing status of a file is communicated to the data contributor through automated email notifications, notifications in PTAGIS software, API responses, and reports.
Files containing MRR data (P3, P4, and P5 files) can be submitted multiple times to allow for edits and/or corrections. When a file is submitted the user must specify the operation to be made on the file: Load or Correct. If a file has never been loaded, the user should select a Load operation. If the file has been previously loaded, the user should select a Correct operation.
Files containing interrogation data (Minimon, M4, and M5 files) can only be submitted once. If an interrogation data file that contains errors has been loaded, it must first be removed from PTAGIS and then a corrected version can be resubmitted. The process to remove a file can be initiated by contacting PTAGIS staff with details about the file(s) to remove.
