Operational History

Operational history describes the period the site was interrogating for PIT tags. The comments provide anecdotal information about the operation of the site during this period. Site operational periods are updated typically at the end of the calendar year.

Year Start Date End Date Comments
2015 1/1/2015 12:00 AM 3/30/2015 12:00 PM Site down March 4-11. Ladder dewatered March 30. Site is now decommissioned and will not be reinstalled.
2014 1/1/2014 12:00 AM 1/1/2015 12:00 AM Site operated intermittently until April 15 due to power issues. Site down April 15-December 17. All components were replaced on December 17.
2013 1/1/2013 12:00 AM 1/1/2014 12:00 AM See event log for details about gaps in data.

Configuration

Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
6/29/2015 9:44:41 AM General One week worth of data are missing from 03/04/2015 to 03/11/2015. The ECH ladder was dewatered on 03/30/2015. This site has since been removed with no plans to continue its operation. All down times are accounted for and all available data are uploaded.
12/31/2014 7:38:00 AM General All data have been uploaded. All down times have been accounted for.
12/17/2014 7:38:00 AM SiteUp Site up and running once again after replacing all components (MUX, cable and antenna). 12/17/2014
4/15/2014 7:38:00 AM General Site operational intermittently through 04/15/2014 with very few detections due to multiple technical issues (e.g., power, noise etc). As of 04/15/2014, ECH site is to be considered "down" until this coming winter.
2/25/2014 9:22:00 AM General MUX power was off upon arrival at ECH on 2/25/2014. There was a single detection in the buffer on 2/19/2014, but it is unclear when power to the MUX was lost. A new power inverter and MUX will be installed at the site next week. This event log accounts for data gaps during this time period.
2/18/2014 2:34:00 PM General The MUX was operational intermittently from 02/11/2014 to 02/18/2014 due to frequent power failures. The lithium ion battery in the MUX was dead so data was potentially lost during this time period. A single tag (3D9.1C2C616BC7) was detected within the time frame above, but the exact date and time of the detection is unknown because MUX parameters were reset after the outage. The date and time stamp were estimated in the interrogation file so the tag could be accounted for in PTAGIS. A new lithium ion battery was installed in the MUX on 2/18/2014. This event log accounts for the data gap during this time period.
2/11/2014 2:34:00 PM General The MUX has been operational intermittently from 01/23/2014 to 02/11/2014 due to frequent power failures. The internal lithium ion battery in the MUX was apparently dead so all potential data was lost following each outage. This event log accounts for the data gap during this time frame.
1/23/2014 2:44:54 PM General On 01/23/2014 we swapped out the MUX and reconfigured the cable wires and capacitors of the PIT antenna. The ECH antenna is now fully operational.
12/31/2013 3:34:00 PM General All 2013 data has been uploaded and down times have been accounted for in PTAGIS.
6/21/2013 1:56:38 PM General Initial event log for site ECH. This site has been operating since 2011. Maureen Kavanagh (maureen_kavanagh@fws.gov) is the site data steward.
12/17/2012 3:26:00 PM General Event log for interrogation file ECH13346.ALL The following time lapses in interrogation data may be due to high noise in the external environment, or may be due to data files not being saved if they contained only test tags. 01/09/13 – 02/18/13; 03/11/13. On 06/10/13, Smith Root conducted routine maintenance on the hatchery electric weir, which is located in close proximity to the hatchery fish ladder and ECH PIT antenna. On approximately 06/17/13, we noticed our PIT antenna noise was at 99% and the antenna would not read a test tag. We speculate the sudden increase in antenna noise was related to the recent maintenance on the weir. Changing the capacitor configuration, shielding the antenna and moving the antenna to a new location within the ladder, had no effect on the antenna noise level. On 06/27/13 a new figure-eight pass through antenna was constructed and installed in the hatchery ladder with moderately improved results. On 12/12/13, we attempted to download the buffer, but the antenna noise was very high again, and only a single test tag had been recorded since June on 07/09/13. We attempted to re-tune the antenna, but it still would not read a virtual test tag (VTT). The ECH antenna is out of operation until further notice.
12/17/2012 3:26:00 PM General Event log for interrogation file ECH12366.ALL The following time lapses in interrogation data may be due to high noise in the external environment, or may be due to data files not being saved if they contained only test tags. 01/04/12 – 01/23/12; 02/24/12 – 02/27/12; 03/28/12 – 04/09/12; 05/09/12 – 05/10/12; 05/12/12; 05/14/12 – 05/19/12; 5/22/12 – 6/6/12; 08/17/12 – 08/27/12; 12/04/12; 12/17/12 – 12/18/12; 12/21/12; 12/24/12.
