GLC - Gold Creek, Methow River

Status:   Active - Operations Unspecified
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 1/1/2009 12:00 AM

GLC is a permanent instream PIT tag interrogation site at RKM 0.18 of Gold Creek in the Methow River basin. From Jan. 2009 until Oct. 2015, the site consisted of 3 rows of antennas and was powered by a FS1001M transceiver. The site currently consists of two rows of antennas, with each row spanning the wetted width of the channel during base flows. Each row consists of two 10-foot PVC antennas, installed in flat-plate configuration. Each antenna is powered by a Biomark IS1001 (ACN) and the ACNs are connected to a Biomark IS1001-MC (MTS). The antennas were built and installed by WDFW. The site is connected to grid power to charge the battery bank powering the detection system. GLC has remote communication abilities provided by a cellular modem and Campbell Scientific CR1000 datalogger. A submersible pressure transducer and temperature probe sensors are also installed to provide environmental condition data collection.

Configuration

Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
10/23/2015 1:00:00 PM General On 10/16/2015 @ 1000 antennas 1 & 2 were powered up, and on 10/23/2015 @ 1300 antennas 3 & 4 were turned on. The new equipment seems to be working great, with good read ranges and very low noise levels.
10/13/2015 10:00:00 AM General Antennas 1, 2 & 5 operated through 10/13/2015. On this date, all existing MUX antennas were removed from the river and replaced with new ACN equipment. There was a short period of time between the removal of the old equipment and the activation of the new equipment in which there was no interrogation. There is no data from 10/13/2015 @ 1000 through 10/16/2015 @ 1000.
8/13/2015 2:00:00 PM General Starting on 4/1/2015, the antennas would loose current sporadically. Hot summer weather exposed the fact that one of the battery banks that was powering the site was no longer holding a charge. This would cause the site to have frequent, but short periods of in-operation. The batteries were replaced on 8/13/2015, which corrected the power issue, and also help reduce noise levels at the site. Antennas 1, 2 & 5 are operating at this time.
7/23/2015 9:00:00 AM General Antenna 5 lost current on 5/17/2015 @ 2200 and was plugged back in on 7/23/2015 @ 0900. Antennas 1 & 2 were still operational during this period.
4/1/2015 12:00:00 AM General Starting on 4/1/2015, the antennas would loose current sporadically. Duration of the down times for the antennas is unknown because whenever the site was visited, everything seemed to be working. The status reports show that there would be no antenna current every once in a while.
1/1/2015 12:00:00 AM General Antennas 1, 2, & 5 operated through all of 2014 with no interruptions. The efficiency of the site is slightly compromised however by the consistent moderate-high noise levels.
5/3/2014 12:00:00 AM General Antennas 1, 2, & 5 are operating, but with high noise. Antenna 3 was plugged back in on 4/2/2014 and operated until it lost current again on 5/3/2014.
1/1/2014 12:00:00 AM General Antennas 1, 2, & 5 are operating, but with high noise. Antennas 3 & 4 have no current, but can't be accessed due to ice
12/13/2013 11:30:00 AM General 12/03/2013 14:10 through 12/13/2013 11:30 There was a malfunction with the power source at the site, and no coils were functioning for this period of time.
9/3/2013 4:10:00 AM General 08/29/2013 17:00 through 09/03/2013 04:10 There was issue with interrogation information being stored, so all info was lost for this period.
8/23/2013 8:55:00 PM General 08/16/2013 08:40 through 08/23/2013 08:55 There was a malfunction with the power source at the site, and no coils were functioning for this period of time.
8/13/2013 8:30:00 AM General Coil 4 was unplugged due to poor operation, and coil 5 was plugged in.
