JDM - Upper John Day River Array

Status:   Active - Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 12/14/2015 12:00 AM

The Upper Mainstem John Day Array, owned and operated by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, is installed on the Upper Mainstem John Day River approximately 7 miles upstream of Dayville, Oregon. The array is powered by permanent grid power with no battery backup. The site includes a remotely accessible cellular modem for data downloads and control. The site is operated year round. The system consists of five 20 ft antennas in two rows at all times, except when low flows or ice preclude water flow over some antennas. Except at extremely high flows, the entire river bed is monitored by the antenna arrays.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
12/3/2018 1:51:00 PM General Antenna 2 was removed for repair and put back in on this day. Node 3 was switched to 1621-1555. All antennas and nodes are working. Antenna 1 does not have a very good amperage.
7/18/2017 7:16:00 AM General Removed 33 nF Capacitor Bypass Jumper from Node 6- Antenna Tuned successfully. Added Cable organizing conduit and further secured site.
7/13/2017 11:37:14 AM SiteUp Reinstalled and reconfigured site. Upstream antenna bank fully operational. 2 of 3 antennas on downstream antenna bank operational.
4/1/2017 7:54:00 AM SiteDown High flows caused unknown damage to multiple antennas. Site secured and SHUT DOWN until damage can be assessed and repaired. (Probably will be down until Summer Flows 2017)
2/6/2017 7:43:12 AM General Node 6 antenna failed upon install. Removed the antenna for repair.
12/22/2016 11:45:00 AM General Installed 6th Node and Antenna on site. Appears the antenna is having a problem, staff is working on fixing the issue. Site is up with 5 nodes in sequence, still missing river left antenna on upstream antenna group.
10/24/2016 10:01:00 AM General Reinstalled the repaired antenna in the Node 5 position.
9/27/2016 3:14:00 PM General Node 5 removed from scanning sequence. Antenna malfunctioned.
9/26/2016 12:00:00 PM General Site maintenance performed: 40' antenna removed from Node 1 because of its inability to tune. Replaced with 20' antenna. Node 1 fully tuned and added to scanning sequence. Upstream antenna group is approximately 15 ft short of full channel coverage.
9/19/2016 12:00:00 PM General Site maintenance performed: 5th Node and 20' Antenna added to site and scanning sequence to attain full river coverage on Downstream antenna group.
6/27/2016 12:00:00 PM General Site maintenance performed node 1 removed from sequence because of its inability to Tune. Node 3 40' Antenna replaced with 20'. Node 3 Tuned and operational.
1/31/2016 12:00:00 PM SiteUp Initial Site Install. Nodes 1 and 3 NOT operational.
