LC2 - Upper Lolo Creek at rkm 25

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Biomark
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 11/4/2011 12:00 AM

Instream detection system consisting of a single array located in the Lolo Creek, a tributary to the Clearwater River. The array (LC2) is located at river km 522.224.087.025 (N 46.290562 W -115.934153) and consists of four 20 foot Biomark flat panel antennas that span the entire river at base flow. LC2 is operated by the Integrated Status and Effectiveness Project (ISEMP) cooperators Nez Perce Tribe and Quantitative Consultants, Inc. and was installed for continuous monitoring in November 2011. The array includes ISEMP standard site monitoring equipment including: air and water temperature probes, and a water pressure transducer to monitor stream level. Electrical power is provided using a solar/propane hybrid thermal electric generator and remote communication provided by a satellite phone modem.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
12/8/2020 2:01:00 PM General LC2 thermoelectric generator (TEG) spark ignitor adjustment made on December 8, 2020. TEG was not self-starting and charging batteries.
11/2/2020 4:05:28 PM General Lolo Creek 2 (LC2) antenna B3 lost current on October 12, 2020. Antenna B3 was replaced with a 20 ft. PVC antenna on October 28, 2020. LC2 is operating continuously without disruption through November 2, 2020.
9/1/2020 4:02:00 PM General Upper Lolo Creek PIT array (LC2). Exchanged 4 empty propane bottles for 4 full ones. Replaced propane hoses that were compromised by an animal chewing on them. New hoses have an armored shield. LC2 is operating continuously without disruption through September 21, 2020.
6/8/2020 6:28:00 AM General Satellite SIM Card Swap and site maintenance. Checked TEG and propane fittings. Added wire mesh to propane hoses to deter wildlife.
9/4/2019 3:47:00 PM General Lolo Creek 2 (LC2) lost current to all four antennas on April 10, 2019 due to extremely high flows thus ripping all antenna cables from antennas A1-A4. Antennas A1 and A4 were replaced with 20 ft. PVC Biomark antennas due to water leaking into the antennas through the cable connection. Antennas A2 and A3, were simply plugged back in and re-secured. All antennas are operational again as of September 4, 2019.
4/10/2019 7:31:00 AM SiteDown Lolo Creek 2 lost current to all four antennas during a high water event on 4/10/19. Site is down, although power supply and electronics within the enclosure remain intact.
10/8/2018 7:10:00 AM General Lolo Creek Array (LC2) had Campbell Scientific data logger replaced with a new data logger designed by Biomark on October 8, 2018. A new HughsNet satellite modem was also installed to replace the existing Globalstar modem. LC2 site air temperature probe was changed out for a compatible model. LC2 is operating continuously without disruption through October 21, 2018.
5/8/2018 3:30:00 PM General Replaced all six solar array batteries with new ones on 5/8/18. LC2 is running continuously without disruption through 9/19/18.
10/24/2017 8:14:00 AM General Lolo Creek 2 (LC2) lost remote communications on 8/29/17 due to a faulty satellite modem. The modem was replaced on 10/24/17 and normal communications resumed. LC2 is running continuously without disruption through 10/30/17.
5/19/2017 11:31:00 AM General The optical isolator between the MUX and data logger was replaced at Lolo Creek 2 (LC2) on May 19, 2017. LC2 has run continuously without disruption through 06/09/2017.
11/16/2016 9:08:00 AM General Lolo Creek 2 array (LC2) is functioning and operational without disruption through 11/16/16.
9/21/2015 1:59:00 PM General Antennas 1 and 4 were replaced with 20 ft. Biomark lite antenna style due to low antenna current and consequently reduced antenna read range.
9/23/2014 10:44:58 AM General Lolo Creek 2 (LC2) is functioning and operational without disruption through 9/23/14
