MEM - Eightmile Acclimation Pond

Eightmile Acclimation Pond was designed and constructed from 2017 thru 2018 on the Okanogan National Forest Eightmile Ranch, adjacent to the Chewuch River. One interrogation antenna will be located within the steel outlet structure. Up to two more antennas will be located at the terminus of the outlet pipe where it meets the Chewuch River, flows dependant. Acclimation of juvenile salmonids at this site will occur on a yearly basis. The interrogation system(s) are intended to monitor in-pond and smolt-to-adult survival rates and will be operational during release. Typical times of operation for this site will be March 15 thru June 1.

Antenna (A1) was located inside the pond at the outlet pipe. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B1) for Eightmile Acclimation Pond was installed on 04-26-2023 and removed on 06-20-2023. Antenna (B1) was located on the Chewuch River at the acclimation pond outlet pipe. Antenna (B1) was nonoperational from 05-03-2023 thru 05-18-2023 due to high river flows. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B2) for Eightmile Acclimation Pond was installed on 04-26-2023 and removed on 05-02-2023. Antenna (B2) was located 10 meters downstream from Antenna (B1) in a small side channel of the Chewuch River. Antenna (A1), Antenna (B1), and Antenna (B2) downloads were combined into one interrogation file.

PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B2) for Eightmile Pond began on 04-25-2022 at 1815 hrs. Antenna (B2) was located 10 meters downstream from Antenna (B1) in a small side channel of the Chewuch River. Antenna (B2) was removed on 05-26-2022 due to high flows. The last download for this antenna occurred on 05-26-2022 at 0200 hrs. Antenna (B1) and Antenna (B2) downloads were combined into one interrogation file.
7/14/2021 10:55:00 AM	General	Interrogation event log for the 8-Mile Pond Acclimation Site (MEM)-2021 release PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna A1) for the 8-Mile Pond began on 04-28-2021 at 1200 hrs. Antenna (A1) was located on the pond outlet structure. Antenna (A1) was moved downward accordingly with dropping pond levels. Antenna (A1) never moved and did not experience any lapse in coverage. A total of 14 files were downloaded throughout the interrogation period. The last download for this antenna occurred on 06-14-2021 at 1200 hrs. This antenna was removed after a period of no new unique PIT tag detections and a snorkel survey to confirm that the pond was void of hatchery Coho. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B1) for 8-Mile Pond began on 04-28-2021 at 1200 hrs. Antenna (B1) was located approximately 15 meters downstream of Antenna (A1) and in the Chewuch River. Antenna (B1) was never moved. Antenna (B1) experienced a lapse in data collection between 05-18-2021 at 2250 hrs and 05-30-2021 1540 hrs due to a power connection failure. A total of 13 files were downloaded throughout release. The last download for this antenna, occurred on 06-17-2021 at 1300 hrs and removed shortly after. Yakama Nation staff removed all remaining equipment during the month of June.
6/30/2020 1:18:07 PM	SiteDown	Interrogation event log for the 8-Mile Pond Acclimation Site (MEM)-2020 release PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna A1) for the 8-Mile Pond began on 04-20-2020 at 1730 hrs. Antenna (A1) was located on the pond outlet structure. Antenna (A1) was moved downward accordingly with dropping pond levels. Antenna (A1) was experienced a series of difficulties in a 10-day period between 04-26-2020 and 05-06-2020 due to a faulty memory card issue. A total of 9 files were downloaded throughout the interrogation period. The last download for this antenna occurred on 05-22-2020 at 1200 hrs. It was removed at an earlier date due to noise interference as pond levels dropped. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B1) for 8-Mile Pond began on 04-20-2020 at 1100 hrs. Antenna (B1) was located approximately 15 meters downstream of Antenna (A1) and in the Chewuch River. Antenna (B1) was never moved and did not experience any lapse in coverage. A total of 46 files were downloaded throughout release. The last download for this antenna, occurred on 06-04-2020 at 1200 hrs. This antenna was removed on 06-04-2020, following a three-day period of no unique PIT tag detections and a snorkel survey to confirm that the pond was void of hatchery Coho. Yakama Nation staff removed all remaining equipment during the month of June.

A total of 9 files were downloaded throughout the interrogation period. The last download for this antenna occurred on 05-22-2019 at 1100 hrs. It was removed at an earlier date due to noise interference as pond levels dropped. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B1) for 8-Mile Pond began on 05-04-2019 at 1200 hrs. Antenna (B1) was located approximately 15 meters downstream of Antenna (A1) and in the Chewuch River. Antenna (B1) was never moved and did not experience any lapse in coverage. A total of 25 files were downloaded throughout release. The last download for this antenna, occurred on 05-30-2019 at 1145 hrs. This antenna was removed on 05-30-2019, following a three-day period of no unique PIT tag detections and a snorkel survey to confirm that the pond was void of hatchery Coho. PIT tag interrogation system (Antenna B2) for 8-Mile Pond, began on 05-04-2019 at 1200 hrs. Antenna (B2) was located approximately 3 meters downstream of Antenna (B1). Antenna (B2) was removed on 05-08-2019 due to increased water flows. It remained offline for the rest of the release. A total of 6 files were downloaded during the release period. All remaining equipment was removed by Yakama Nation staff on 5-30-2019 from the 8-Mile Acclimation Pond.
