MJ1 - Middle Fork John Day Array

The Middle Fork John Day Array, owned and operated by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, is installed on the Middle Fork John Day River, near the current confluence with Mosquito Creek on Malheur National Forest Service Land. The site is operated year round. The array is powered by solar power. The system runs two arrays with one PEX antenna each at all times, except when low flows or ice preclude water flow over some antennas. Except at extremely high flows, the entire river bed is monitored by the antenna arrays. It is downloaded manually. When first installed, the site had two arrays with three antennas each.

The upgraded system now running. There are now only two antennas that each span the width of the channel, with one antenna placed approximately 10 feet downstream of the other. They are both run by a master controller.

Transceiver was not scanning for tags upon arrival. Potentially due to power issues during cold conditions or transceiver may have been left in standby mode on 3/1/2021 site visit. No tag detections from 3/1/2021 - 3/22/2021

Possible that 2 antennas were not fully functional; otherwise site in good order.

Transceiver was likely left in standby prior to departure during site visit on 1/27; no data was logged from 1/27 - 2/2. Reset transceiver, erased memory, and ensured transceiver was left in scan mode. Test tag read range approx. 12" on antennas F1,F2,F3,F5,F6; test tag did not detected by F4.

Downloaded data from 12/3/2020 - 01/23/2021. Data was not erased from the buffer memory on previous site visit, so download file contains same data from previous site visit on 12/23/2020. Gaps in data starting on 1/20/2021; could be attributed to depleted batteries due to winter weather conditions. Voltage was good (26.8 V) upon arrival, but transceiver was not scanning for tags. Ensured virtual tags were getting logged to memory buffer prior to departure. Antenna F4 only sporadically detecting virtual and actual tags.
