PD8 - Columbia River Estuary rkm 82
Status: Active - Non-OperationalGeneral Operational Period: Seasonally
Start Date: 3/29/2023 12:00 AM
In-river detection system located at river km 82 in the Columbia River Estuary. The array (PD8) consists of four 8ft x 20ft antennas (3 upstream and 1 downstream of the dike) and two 8ft x 10 ft antennas (upstream of dike) and is operated by NOAA Fisheries, targeting detections of migrating juvenile and adult salmonids. The array (PD8) was installed on 3/23/2023 for continuous monitoring, and includes a Biomark IS1001 transceiver with an individual IS1001 reader assigned to each antenna. A solar panel array is affixed to a piling along the dike to charge a battery bank. Remote communication will be provided via a cellular modem. All electronics are contained to a floating barge, moored downstream of the pile dike. Antenna groups are based on orientation relative to the pile dike, with numbering starting at the downstream terminal king piling of the structure. We intend to operate this site annually from March through September.

Operational History
Operational history describes the period the site was interrogating for PIT tags. The comments provide anecdotal information about the operation of the site during this period. Site operational periods are updated typically at the end of the calendar year.

Configuration
Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.

PD8 was installed for the first time in 2023, and operated from 29 March through 2 October. In 2023, PD8 detected a total of 725 tagged fish, which included 395 spring/summer Chinook salmon, 108 fall Chinook salmon, 126 steelhead, 43 coho salmon, 4 sockeye salmon, 2 cutthroat trout, 14 white sturgeon, 5 northern pikeminnow, and 28 fish with unknown species information. This site will not be reinstalled in 2024 due to the lack of detections compared to PD5, PD6, and PD7. Effort will be focused on expanding PD5 and PD6, as well as adding an additional pile dike site in the same reach. |
