SWK - Lower Swauk Creek

Status:   Active - Operations Unspecified
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Yakama Nation
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 8/16/2011 12:00 AM

SWK is a permanent instream PIT tag detection system located at rkm 1.8 on lower Swauk creek. SWK was originally installed at rkm 0.5 and was operational from August of 2011-February of 2016. The site has been relocated to reduce the number of “dip in” detections as well as alleviating antenna noise issues. The site now consists of four rows of antennas, two 20ft HDPE flat plates and two 20ft X 8ft PEX pass-through antennas separated by ~25ft. All four rows of antennas span the wetted width of the channel during most flow conditions. The antennas were built by Yakama Nation and WDFW staff and installed using Manta ray MR4 anchors and NRS straps. The antennas are powered by Biomark IS1001 ACNs daisy chained to a Biomark IS1001 MTS. The site is connected to grid power.

Configuration

Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
8/20/2019 9:00:00 AM General SWK was reinstalled ~1 RKMs upstream of the previous location. Contact Zack Mays or Gabriel Temple for the site's exact location. The landowner requested to keep the exact location of the site discrete. The site began collecting data on 8-20 but was not fully operational until 8-23-2019 @ 09:00.
11/6/2018 7:23:14 AM General Since 3-1-2016, SWK has not been in operation. There are still plans to move the site upstream in the near future.
3/1/2016 12:01:00 AM General Sometime on 3/1/2016 antenna 1 became disconnected. The site was removed shortly after. A new site location for lower Swauk creek is being evaluated. Installation of a new pit array for Swauk should take place June, 2017.
2/29/2016 8:31:14 AM General At 08:05 this morning, antenna 1 was tuned and settings on the MUX were restored.
2/29/2016 8:09:41 AM General The site was turned back on 2-11-2016 at 12:24. Antenna 3 was damaged while the site was inactive. Antenna 2 stopped working on 2-15. From 2-16 at 15:30 to 2-29 at 08:00 no data will be submitted for antenna 1.
12/10/2015 10:19:00 AM General The MUX was placed on standby mode at 10:19 AM. The site will remain in standby mode until power issues at the site can be addressed.
11/6/2015 11:31:49 AM General The batteries have been fully charged and the MUX was returned to scan mode at 11:30 am.
11/3/2015 9:54:19 AM General Sometime after 6:00am this morning the voltage levels dropped. At 9:54am this site was placed on standby mode until the batteries are charged.
8/14/2015 1:06:00 PM General Antenna 3 lost all power at 4:47 AM on 8/3/15.
2/23/2015 10:21:00 AM General Test tags failed to log from 1/26 to 2/23. The site appeared to be operating properly during this period. Settings on the MUX have been reprogrammed.
1/26/2015 2:49:00 AM General The site was down from 12/9/14 @ 15:48 to 1/26 @ 14:49.
8/6/2014 10:12:07 AM General Sometime after the last upload on 6/23/14, the MUX began experiencing problems and was not recording data properly. On 7/31, at 14:00, the MUX was reprogrammed and is now recording data again.
1/29/2014 11:29:31 AM General A timer was installed on the charger at the SWK array to alleviate high night time noise levels. The timer will shut the battery charger off at 15:30 and back on at 00:30 every day. The timer's schedule was finallized on 1/28. Status reports from last night are showing low noise levels throughout the night. Reports will continue to be monitored on 1 hr intervals for the time being. Any changes in noise levels will be reported.
1/22/2014 2:11:06 PM General Status reports lost from 1-13 to 1-22 due to a communtication failure with the MUX.
1/22/2014 8:06:30 AM General Other than the usual high noise levels between 17:00 and 21:00 daily, the site operated continuosly during 2013.
12/16/2013 5:21:06 PM General From 12-31-2012, the day the site was re-installed, until today at 15:13:00, the antenna configuration was switched. Antenna 3 was the upstream antenna while 1 was downstream. At 15:20, the configuration was switched back to the Ptagis standard (the original configuration of the site prior to the fire), with 1 being the upstream, 2 the middle and 3 the downstream antenna. Files will be re-submitted with an attempt to correct the previous data. Another report will be submitted if/when that happens.
12/11/2013 9:44:04 AM General Updated site configuration to reflect changes that were made to the site on 12/31/2012 when it was reinstalled after a wildfire - the upstream and downstream antennas were switched. Updated observation records collected since 12/31/2012 to indicate they were collected with configuration sequence # 110.
