LEA - Leaburg Dam Combined Fishways

Status:   Decommissioned
Site Type: Combined Dam Location  |  Organization: Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 12/1/2009 12:00 AM
End Date: 9/5/2018 12:00 AM

Leaburg Dam is located at km 56 on the McKenzie River, east of Eugene, OR. The screened bypass diverts downstream migrants from the turbine intakes. Dual FDX/HDX PIT tag detectors were installed in the bypass exit in December 2009. Smolts can also pass through the spillway. There is a fish ladder located on each bank. The antennas in the fish ladders never reported data to PTAGIS. Site was upgraded from RM310 reader boards to IS1001s in May 2016. The IS1001s were set to read FDX tags only. A third antenna was added June 2017. Site is no longer active.

Event Log Summary

Event Date Event Type Comments
6/29/2017 4:00:00 PM SiteUp Three operational antennas with site back up and running. Water returned to bypass canal.
6/29/2017 9:55:00 AM SiteDown Replaced three antennas with FRP-clad, ferrite shielded antennas. All three antennas interrogate entire 5'x5' channel, and are synced to each-other through IS-1001 24V readers. Previous setup had two operational antennas, now the system has three operational antennas. Moved power to a dedicated breaker, on battery backup.
6/28/2017 9:55:00 AM SiteDown Site down for antenna upgrade.
3/25/2017 12:00:00 AM SiteDown EWEB conducted annual maintenance on Leaburg canal from 3/25/17 to 4/25/17. No detections during this period; fish bypass dewatered.
5/4/2016 1:00:00 PM SiteUp Site operational.
5/4/2016 12:02:00 PM General Leaburg site upgraded from RM-310 reader boards to two IS1001 reader boards. Antennas retuned and data collection software installed on cabinet computer. System was tested with 10 live fish with HDX on and only 7 were detected. HDX was turned off and the system was tested with 20 fish and all 20 were detected. HDX was left off. Currently, the system is operating with two antennas, separated by 25’. Antenna one is the upstream antenna, and antenna two is the downstream antenna. These antennas provide full coverage of the ~5’x5’ fish return at the Leaburg canal fish screen.
5/3/2016 9:20:00 AM SiteDown Site shut down for reader upgrade from RM-310 to IS1001.
5/13/2014 12:01:00 AM SiteUp Ladder operations began along with PIT tag monitoring.
