PD7 - Columbia River Estuary rkm 70

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: NOAA Fisheries
General Operational Period: Seasonally
Start Date: 8/8/2011 12:00 AM

In-river detection system consisting of ten 8ft x 20ft antennas in the Columbia River Estuary. The array (PD7) is located at river km 70 (46.14661N, -123.379867W), is operated by NOAA Fisheries, and was installed for testing on 8 August, 2011 and later modified for continuous monitoring on 11 August, 2011. The array includes an IS1001 transceiver (firmware v1.6.3) and wireless video camera. Electrical power is provided by a solar panel array with backup battery power, and remote communication and video uplink are provided by a cellular modem. Antenna groups are named based on their orientation relative to the pile dike starting with Configuration Sequence 180. Prior to that they were named based on orientation relative to flow.

Configuration

Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.

Event Date Event Type Comments
9/29/2020 6:18:55 AM General PD7 was shutdown for winter maintenance. We will potentially reinstate system functionality in the spring of 2021.
3/12/2020 12:03:00 PM General Power to the site was restored. Antennas 01, 04, 06, and 0A are installed and functioning.
2/16/2020 12:00:00 PM General From 2/16/20-3/11/20 PD7 was undergoing maintenance. No data was recorded during this period.
12/27/2019 12:00:00 AM General Antennas at nodes 08 and 09 were removed from the system to conserve power.
11/18/2019 12:00:00 AM General The antenna at node 2 failed due to water damage and was removed from the system. It will be repaired and replaced at a later date.
10/28/2019 10:55:00 AM SiteDown The site was down due to power failure between 9/25/19 at 1413 and 10/9/19 at 1240, except for a few brief periods lasting less than a few hours at a time. The site also lost power between 10/12/19 at 2047 and 10/15/19 at 1431.
9/3/2019 12:00:00 AM General The antenna at node 1 was removed due to water intrusion. The antenna was replaced and installed back at node 1 on October 10, 2019.
7/1/2019 12:09:06 PM SiteDown The site was down due to power failure between 6/20/19 at 5pm and 6/24/19 at 8am.
9/26/2018 1:40:00 PM General Addressed proximity issues for antennas 04 and 0A that may have caused constant tuning. Antennas 02 and 06 were shifted slightly towards the shoreline and lifted vertically to create separation from antennas 04 and 0A.
8/22/2018 12:16:00 PM SiteDown PD7 was not operational from 22-30 August 2018 due to an electrical short at the site. From 31 August-6 September, PD7 was operational, but was not running at maximum efficiency. Full operations and function resumed 6 September at approximately 14:00 PM.
4/16/2018 11:00:00 AM General Antenna at Node 2 has been repaired and reinstalled. All antennas operating normally.
3/14/2018 11:00:00 AM General Lost connection to Node 2. No apparent damage to capsule, so possibly water intrusion. Capsule was removed, so no antenna at Node 2. All other antennas are connected and functioning normally.
3/9/2018 11:00:00 AM General Connectors on Node 2 have been repaired. All antennas connected and functioning normally.
3/8/2018 11:00:00 AM General Both connectors on Node 2 have been disconnected by debris. This effectively cutoff all antennas except for Node 1. Only Node 1 is connected at this time.
3/7/2018 5:00:00 PM General Four new HDPE antennas were installed on the upstream, terminal end of the pile dike.
8/25/2017 8:02:00 AM General The last two antennas were replaced today (#8 and 9). There are now a total of 6 antennas operating on the pile dike. Antennas 1, 3, and 5 are vertical cable and 7 and 8 are vertical hose. Antenna 9 is a horizontal hose antenna. The system should continue to operate through the winter and into 2018.
8/11/2017 8:02:00 AM General Today we reinstalled Antennas 3 and 5, and also added an additional antenna in position #7. We will be back soon to replace the remaining two antennas (8 and 9).
8/10/2017 8:02:00 AM General Today we removed Antenna 3 for updates and maintenance. Only Antenna 1 is operating on the pile dike.
8/7/2017 8:02:00 AM General Antennas 5, 8, and 9 were removed today for updates and maintenance. Currently only antennas 1 and 3 are operating on the pile dike.
1/30/2017 2:56:00 PM General There are currently five antennas installed on the pile dike. These include flexible hose antennas used in previous years, as well as new antennas built from manufactured cable that we are testing this year. Antenna 1 is a vertical cable antenna perpendicular to the pile dike (parallel to flow). Antenna 3 is a vertical hose antenna perpendicular to the pile dike (parallel to flow). Antenna 5 is a vertical hose antenna perpendicular to the pile dike (parallel to flow). Antenna 8 is a vertical hose antenna parallel to the pile dike (perpendicular to flow). Lastly, Antenna 9 is a horizontal hose antenna parallel to the pile dike (perpendicular to flow).
1/26/2017 12:00:00 AM SiteUp Power to the site has been restored and is expected to be continuous throughout 2017, with the exception of shutdowns for site maintenance.
12/20/2016 11:51:00 AM SiteDown The antenna system at PD7 went down due to a power failure, and is expected to power up to full functionality in January.
11/17/2016 11:47:00 AM General Antenna 06 was removed from the system today, and should be reinstalled in early spring of 2017. The remainder of the antenna system at PD7 will remain throughout the winter and sample through 2017.
9/23/2016 10:57:00 AM General Antenna 01 failed today, likely due to damage caused by debris in river. The remainder of the system remains fully functional.
3/23/2016 6:19:00 AM General Antenna 01 was installed today. This antenna is at the terminal end of the dike and is oriented perpendicular to the dike and parallel to river flow. This is the last antenna that will be installed at PD7 until river levels drop.
