WRU - Upper Wind River (WA) rkm 30

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: U.S. Geological Survey
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 10/12/2012 12:00 AM

An instream interrogation system on the Wind River, WA. In its original configuration the site was located at river kilometer 30 near the FR3065 bridge over the Wind River and had 6 antennas in two arrays. After a flood event in December 2015 damaged all but one of the antennas, the site operated sporadically until it was relocated in October 2016 to a location 2 km downstream of its original location and reinstalled with three 20ft antennas. In September 2017, a 2nd array of three antennas was added to the site. In September of 2022, the three antennas in the downstream array were replaced with four 10ft and one 20ft antenna.

1/25/2023 7:53:00 AM General

On 1/25/23 at about noon, the cable to Antenna 2 was reconnected after being disconnected by flood late December 2022.

Ian

1/4/2023 3:42:00 PM General

Contact was lost with Antenna 2 at WRU at about 2000hrs on 27 December 2022 during high water. Assuming a disconnect at underwater connection. Antenna is out of sequence until water drops and we can confirm and reconnect.

Ian

12/7/2021 9:01:00 AM General

Reconnected antenna 6 cable which had been pulled out during high water on 11/13.

Ian

11/13/2021 4:00:00 AM General

Contact was lost with Antenna 6 at about 0400 on 11/13/21. Had been high water. Do not know yet if a cable issue or if antenna was damaged.

Ian

10/20/2021 10:47:00 AM SiteDown

WRU was down from 20 Oct 2021 at about 1100 to 25 Oct 2021 at about 1100.

Ian

9/7/2021 3:37:00 PM General

Replaced antenna 1 with a new HDPE antenna. Back to running a full 6 antenna system.

Ian

4/8/2021 4:35:29 PM General On 4/8/2021 at about 1300 we connected a new cable to Antenna 3 to replace the one that was cut during the Jan 2021 flood. Ian
1/20/2021 8:39:24 AM General Early morning of 13 January 2021 high flow and debris broke antenna 1 and severed the cable to antenna 3. We will repair and replace asap, but will require lower flow. Ian
7/23/2018 11:50:32 AM General On 7/11/2018 antennas 2 and 3 at WRU, which had been broken the previous winter, were replaced. Site now had six functioning antennas. Ian
1/2/2018 4:31:04 PM General At about midnight on December 29, 2017, Antenna 2 at WRU was broken. Potentially by the large log still hung up on Antenna 3. Both antennas are out of sequence. Ian
11/29/2017 2:55:01 PM General Around 7am on Nov 23rd a large tree/rootwad washed up near antenna 3 and we lost contact with antenna 3. Do not know at this time if the antenna is damaged or the cable has just been disconnected. Antenna 3 is currently out of the antenna sequence. Ian
9/11/2017 11:55:34 AM General A second antenna array was added to this site on 9/8/2017. Upstream array is Antennas 1, 2, 3; downstream array is antennas 4, 5, 6. Ian
11/3/2016 1:18:17 PM General Site WRU was reactivated on 6 Oct 2016. The site was relocated about 1.5km downstream of its former location, where it was destroyed in the December 2015 flood. We hope the new location will be friendlier at high water. Current configuration is one array of three 20' antennas. We hope to add a second array during 2017. Ian
6/8/2016 1:27:30 PM General The flood of Dec 9 2015 destroyed all but antenna 3 at this site. Our MUX unit was malfunctioning during the winter so the site was offline for awhile. On 23 May 2016 we installed a new MUX and began operating just antenna 3. We will replace antennas during the summer of 2016. Ian
12/9/2015 4:45:54 PM General During the night of 12/8, contact was lost with Antennas 2, 4, 5, and 6. Major flood, unknown if pulled cables or damaged antennas. Ian
12/8/2015 4:11:39 PM General At about 1500hrs on 12/7/15, contact was lost with Antenna 1. Will have to wait for low water, hopefully pulled cable. Ian
12/7/2015 3:06:39 PM General On 12/3/2015 at about 12:30, the number one antenna at WRU was reconnected. Ian
11/24/2015 5:08:02 PM General On the night of November 17 2015, flooding disconnected antenna 1. Will have to wait for flow to drop to get in and reconnect the antenna. Ian
6/8/2015 2:08:16 PM General A short in the charging circuit at WRU (possibly caused by ants) caused loss of power to the MUX from about 2100 on 6/6/2015 to about 1000 on 6/8/2015. Ian
5/26/2015 4:24:55 PM General WRU lost power and due to a bad lithium battery also data from 19 May at 12:00 to 25 May at 11:00. Lithium battery was replaced on 26 May.  Ian
5/20/2015 2:23:57 PM General WRU lost power from about 12:45 on 18 May to about 0900 on 19 May 2015. Also from about 12:00 19 May to about 08:45 on 20 May. Disruptions have been due to poor solar generation. Panels have been moved and batteries recharged to hopefully ameliorate the problem. Ian
5/19/2015 8:41:25 AM General WRU lost and regained power several times between 5/14/15 and 5/18/15. Correct time and dates were lost. Interrogation times during this period are estimates.
3/4/2015 4:38:58 PM General On 27 January 2015, the cable to antenna two developed a frayed spot due to friction on a rock. This resulted in noise to the antenna that prevented tag reads. The cable was replaced on 3 March 2015 and antenna two is back to normal operation.
2/11/2015 3:18:00 PM General WRU was down due to power loss from 0200 to 1100 on 11 February 2015
10/28/2014 3:18:00 PM General WRU was down due to power loss from 28 October at 10:00 to 31 October at 13:00.
