This site monitors the outfall of the Rapid River Fish Hatchery pond. It operates seasonally from when fish are delivered to the pond until after all fish have been forced out at the end of the volitional release period.

2015 2/11/2015 1:00 PM 4/24/2015 11:30 AM Volitional release started March 15. The primary computer rebooted several times during the season; any detections that were missed during reboots were filled with data from the secondary computer. All remaining fish were forced out of the pond and the transceivers were shut down on April 24.
2014 2/10/2014 12:00 AM 4/28/2014 11:37 AM Antenna 05 down February 10-20. Volitional release started March 17. Power outage occurred March 20 for approximately 3 hours; buffers were downloaded and detections were submitted in recapture file PIT14079.RPJ. All remaining fish were seined out of the pond and the transceivers were shut down on April 28.

2011 2/8/2011 2:45 PM 4/22/2011 12:00 AM The detection equipment was installed on Feb. 8. Volitional release began on Mar. 15. Remaining fish were seined from the pond on Apr. 21. Site was shut down and equipment removed on Apr. 22.
2010 2/4/2010 12:00 PM 4/23/2010 10:30 AM Rapid River Hatchery staff pulled the raceway screens on March 15 to allow fish to volitionally exit the facility. The pond was emptied and the equipment was disabled on April 23.
2009 2/9/2009 1:00 PM 4/24/2009 9:35 AM Detection activities began on Feb. 9. The volitional release began at approximately 6AM (PST) on March 16. All remaining fish were crowded out on Wednesday, April 22. The interrogation equipment was deactivated on April 24.
2008 2/19/2008 2:00 PM 4/25/2008 9:30 AM The RPJ detection system was enabled on Feb. 19, with tagged fish already in the pond. The boards were pulled around noon on Mar. 19 to allow volitional release. The remaining fish were forced out, and the pond dewatered, on April 25, 2008.
2007 2/16/2007 12:45 PM 4/27/2007 12:00 PM Volitional release apparently began on March 15, 2007. All remaining fish were forced out on April 27, 2007.
2006 2/13/2006 11:30 AM 4/25/2006 10:44 AM RPJ was activated on February 13, 2006. There were ~100k PIT-tagged fish in a pond of ~1M total fish. Volitional release began on March 17 and concluded on April 25, 2006.
2005 2/28/2005 12:00 AM 4/25/2005 12:00 AM The RPJ site was activated on February 28, 2005. The first pond boards were pulled on March 15. The pond was fully dewatered by April 25, 2005.
2004 1/29/2004 8:00 AM 4/21/2004 3:00 PM The PIT tag detectors were activated at 8:00am on 1/29/04. Scheduled volitional release commenced at approximately 2:00pm on 3/15/04. The pond was drained and any remaining fish were forced out by 3:00pm on 4/21/04.
2003 3/17/2003 1:00 PM 4/28/2003 5:00 PM IDFG tagged fish for the CSS program between Feb 3-6. BioMark tagged fish for NMFS between 2/10-19. The screens were removed from the (monitored) outfall at 1:00pm on 3/17/03; fish were allowed to exit the pond volitionally until April 28, after which the ponds was drained. The last PIT tags were detected on 4/29/03.

General maintenance check. Fired some VTTs, checked status reports, and ran another test tag through each antenna. Everything is working properly.

There was an old alarm on transceiver 08 (Bad Oscillating Frequency). Presumably tripped that alarm due to a tag right on the edge of the field that was not reading but disrupting the field of that antenna. Rebooted the reader and the alarm went away. General maintenance check of everything else with everything working properly.

The Site lost commercial power at 4:45 PST and it wasn't restored until 8:32 PST. There will be no detections during this time frame.

PSMFC personnel was on site to address a Starlink comms issue and to replace the Sonicwall. All went well Starlink is up and running with no issues.

Reset readers 02, 04, 07 & 08 to clear alarms. Cleared the buffers on all readers, replaced lithium battery on reader 08, and fired virtual test tags to ensure all readers were functioning properly. Screens are being pulled for smolt release on 03/15/2024.

Assisted Brett T in getting the Primary PC back up and configured. Site antennas are installed , verified all communications to xcvrs and file submissions. No outstanding issues to report at this time.
